Gehrig is not "clearly the best".

Puhols definitely has a case and will probably pass Gehrig by the time he retires. I think we have a bit of a bias in general for current players.

Puhols is an all time great.
 
Maybe not clearly the best. But is he going to pass Gehrig in BA, OBP and OPS. Highly unlikely. Sure more home runs, but that's more era. They're close but at this age, its hard to think Pujols can put up better numbers than he already has.
