Greeny from Mike & Mike goes off on Fouls

Jalen Rose and Billups said the opposite...they both said "make your free throws"

Can't stand the rule. Intentional fouls should be two shots and the ball when you are in a bonus situation. It completely kills the flow of the game.

like Jalen Rose said...you want to change the rules of the game for 3 or 4 guys that can't make a free throw?

I agree with Greeny that it is incredibly hard to watch a game when the 'hack a player' strategy is being used, however, there is literally no excuse for a professional, athletic basketball player NOT being able to hit even 50% of his Free Throws.
Drummond is currently shooting 35% from the FT line - I cannot over emphasize how BAD that is.

I literally could shoot that percentage with my eyes closed. He needs to see a shrink, or shoot underhand, or do SOMETHING. It just is mind boggling how bad he is at shooting a free throw.

I can't argue that he needs to hit his free throw, doesn't hide the fact I can't stand that rule.

And I don't buy the 3, 4 guys in the NBA. Every team has a horrible foul shooter. When we get into the crunch time of games in playoffs, and a team is up 3 with 20 seconds left or so, why not go foul a guy that shoots 50-60 percent?

Just to reiterate how Bad Drummond is at shooting Free Throws - here is a list of the 'Top 25' worst Free Throw shooters in the history of the NBA (Min 1000 attempts)

  1. Ben Wallace - 41.4%
  2. DeAndre Jordan - 41.7%
  3. Chris Dudley - 45.8%
  4. Wilt Chamberlain - 51.1%
  5. Charles Outlaw - 52%
  6. Shaquille O'Neal - 52.7%
  7. Reggie Evans - 52.8%
  8. Michael Smith - 52.9%
  9. Larry Smith - 53.1%
  10. Olden Polynice - 53.5%
  11. Johhn Green - 55.3%
  12. Greg Anderson - 55.7%
  13. Andrew Bogut - 56.1%
  14. Bill Russell - 56.1%
  15. Dale Davis - 56.2%
  16. Jason Maxiell - 56.4%
  17. Ken Norman - 56.7%
  18. Mark West - 56.8%

-----------------------------------
and coming in 'first' (worst) place by a LARGE Margin is.........

Andre Drummond!!! Who has hit 455-1182 FT, for a career average of 38.5%

Need any more data proving just how bad Drummond is at Free Throws? There are 70 players who have a career 3-pt shooting percentage higher than Andre.

Heres the Top 10 for shits and giggles:

  1. Steve Kerr - 45.4%
  2. Stephen Curry - 44.2%
  3. Hubert Davis - 44.1%
  4. Drazen Petrovic - 43.7%
  5. Jason Kapono - 43.3%
  6. Tim Legler - 43.1%

There are a lot of games that become close at the end because the team that is down fouls & the other teams miss some free throws. If it were two shots and the ball like you said a lot of the comebacks wouldn't happen. It's part of the game.

I do think its a stupid rule, and Id love there to be some way to deter a team from using the tactic, but still, this is the NBA - full of professionals who should be able to hit a majority of their Free Throws every game.

The sad part is its only going to get worse for the pistons unless Drummond dramatically improves his Free Throw percentage....

As far as the NBA goes, I agree, hit your fouls. But as a fan, both sides, it sucks. The embarrassing part, the fouler goes from 26 minutes in Philly to being the guy who fouls Drummond 5 times in 9 seconds. He had to hate that.

What about this......if it's an off the ball foul....any player on that team can shoot the free throws?

That way......Drummond still has to shoot his own foul shots if he's getting the ball down low or he is the only person open on an in bounds play.......other than that......any Piston player could shoot the foul shots for that weak ass shit Houston pulled the other night.

I like the idea.

Why wouldn't this be an intentional foul like when a player has a fast break they foul him, 2 shots plus the team keeps the ball. Do they still have that rule?
