has this board changed anyone's mind about anything?

Opinions of specific posters have definitely changed.

As far as a changed World View - outside of adapting some new information I may not have known before into my own theories - not very much.

MC changed my take on Thomas Friedman. I like most of what he says about economics and green energy, but I had no idea he was such a doofus about the Iraq war.

this board (specifically the politics tab) has generally served to reinforce my understanding that I am thinking correctly, and am right about everything that has been discussed here.

on some other points, I won't say it "changed" anything, but it definitely required me to dig deeper into the facts and clarify my own positions better.

I like the way you adapted the fossil evidence of dinosaurs into your biblical worldview: they were put there by god to test our faith. that was brilliant.

Are they dinosaur bones, or giant time-travelling atheist bones?

dinosaur bones. some things are just beyond reasonable doubt, Red.

Your faith is strong. Good for you. I maintain my scientific doubt. They might be atheist bones. I propose we clone whatever DNA those bones contain and see if the resulting critters are willing to make donations to charity. If they donate to charity, they're probably God-fearing dinosaurs. If they expect the state to solve all the world's problems, they're money-grubbing atheists.

Didn't we have a thread about you and byco teaming up and cloning dinosaurs as a food source at one time?

That was before I knew they could be time-traveling atheists. I only wanted to eat them when I was thinking of them as evolutionary precursors to poultry.

If it turns out they are the ancestors of birds, then they're still on the menu.

Not sure that was me. I think I am able to believe there were dinosaurs and still believe in God. Now that is brilliant.

Ben Franklin has a whole 'nuther point of view that I ascribe to.

"For having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged by better information, or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise. It is therefore that the older I grow, the more apt I am to doubt my own judgment, and to pay more respect to the judgment of others." (Italics mine.)

Maybe you haven't lived long enough.

This board changed the way I viewed Kid Rock.

I used to think he was just an overrated singer/rapper/PamAndersonfucker, but now I also realize he's pretty much a total moron in the same class of Ted Nugent, tsmith, and Westboro Baptist Church.

This board changed my life.

Agree 100%.

Kid Rock, Jenny McCarthy, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Ted Nugent... all people the world needs to hear less from. "Less" being ideally "nothing."

If liberals would quit whining about the dumb conservatives (and conservatives about McCarthy) that would eliminate the vast bulk of what I hear of these people.

That's right, blame everything on the liberals. one trick-pony show.

Funny. If I had said "and vice versa" I'd have been accused of projecting a false equivalence.

Feels good to see this kind of response though. Puts me nicely in the conservative camp. Glad I still count.

no.

But like others have stated, some of the dialogue has been engaging and informative. And I like byco's BF quote and feel that it's natural to be open ...or less open.

GET OFF MY LAWN!!

Well I was just being a sarcastic smartass, and I also don't really count you as a conservative.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Have KAWDUP or that zyxtm;df9 or whatever guy tutor you in being a conservative. Also ditch the NEST thermostat, a true conservative don't needs no global warmin' energy savin's.

Well crap.

That's not going to work. I like my nest. I don't care what anyone else says. Conservation is conservative and all the conservatives that say otherwise are wrongheaded. I also believe in conservation of mass, momentum, energy...I'm very conservative.
