Hopkins

Who is the last good/great NFL RB from the Big 10? There hasn't been one in over a decade.

Eddie George ran for 1,600 in '02. Pierre Thomas. Shonn Greene, too. Beanie Wells. Rashard Mendenhall. Marion Barber. Ladell Betts. They certainly satisfy the "good" category.

best Michigan RBs I've seen in my game-watching career (started in 1990):

1. Biakabatuka
2. Wheatley

3. Mike Hart

4. Anthony Thomas
5. Chris Perry

eh...

6. Ricky Powers
7. Brandon Minor (I think he could've been A LOT better if we hadn't hired RR)

Some of my best: Ron Johnson, Rob Lytle, Butch Woolfolk, John Vaughn (bright nova like), Tony Boles (same like Vaughn), Gordon Bell.

Eddie George is the only one of them I would put in that category. Barber is the next closest as he was ok, but never hit a 1,000 yard season.

Outside of Eddie and Mendenhall, these guys have all had one productive year at best. Mendenhall has had two good years and the rest of his time he has been hurt.

Anthony Thomas actually had two 1,000 yard seasons as well. That's better than Greene, Wells, or Thomas can boast.

There were no original stipulations on longevity.

I dunno if I'd say "very productive."

I would. He didn't get consistent carries until Big Ten season...in conference play he averaged over 100 yards per game and 5.9 a carry. He was 5.6/carry on the year.

Compared to his 4.0 per carry average this year "very productive" may have been underselling it.

Brandon Minor spent the majority of his career injured. RR is to blame for a lot, but I don't see how its his fault that Minor got repeatedly injured over his entire career.

The RB position has been suspect for quite a while with the exception of Lloyd lucking out with a relatively unrecruited 3 star prospect out of the state of NY turning into a 4 year stud.

That being said, look at Iowa this year, Weisman could run and I don't think he is very talented at all. He just ran behind a good line.

Biakabatuka fit the bill...I didn't go back to him or any further.

Yeah, I was going to mention Thomas' pro career, but that's not completely fair.

I didn't have the pleasure of watching Morris..

No talk of Chris Perry, Tyrone Wheatley, Leroy Hoard!

Michigan offers 2014 RB Joe Mixon
December, 5, 2012 Dec 59:48PM ETBy Tom VanHaaren | ESPN.com Recommend0 Comments0Email Print Michigan is still looking for a superstar running back, even if that means looking in the 2014 class. The Wolverines offered a potential star on Wednesday in Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom).

The 6-foot-1, 191-pound running back has started to gain some serious interest, and was excited about the offer from Michigan.

"I called Coach (Dan) Ferrigno, and we've been talking about the offer for probably two weeks now," he said. "I was supposed to receive it last Sunday, but he just showed my tape to the running back coach. He loved it and Coach Ferrigno said 'We want to offer you a full-ride scholarship.'"

Mixon says he has already built a strong relationship with Ferrigno and is no stranger to Michigan being in his school. The Wolverines also recruited Mixon's 2013 teammate, Darrell Daniels.

Mixon is starting to hear from Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and is hoping to hear from Alabama after sending in his highlight tape to the Crimson Tide coaches. While growing up with dream schools of USC, Oregon and Alabama, Mixon says he is open to anyone at this point and is looking for the right fit.

He has the size and ability the Michigan coaching staff is looking for in a running back, but what does Mixon think of his own game? He compares himself to one of the best running backs in the country.

"Think of me as another Adrian Peterson," he said. "I'm a big back that's elusive and can run you over. I have the whole package because I can block, catch and run the football."

While Mixon is still in the information gathering process, he says he plans on learning more about Michigan through Ferrigno and research and believes that Michigan is "up there" on his list.

The comment referred to what MB09 would know, since mb09 has claimed to not know anything about UM football since before he became a fan which was just a few years ago

I agree with this. 1 and 2 can be flipped or left as they are. The best college running backs I have ever seen. Power and speed. Wow, they were fun to watch. I'd also throw Chris Howard in there. He split carries a lot, but he had some big games and big plays for us, especially in 97.

i'd have Chris Howard tied w/Ricky Powers I guess. both solid RBs... but didn't have exceptionally memorable careers.

Tony Boles would have been top 3 if he doesnt blow out his knee. He was a first round lock and potential heisman front runner until his knee exploded. Ricky Powers needs to thank him lol. After his knee he went on to lead all leagues in cocaine arrests lol.
