He has been doing this for twenty years. He is not a first ballot HOFer but I believe he deserves to get in at some point.

I would tend to agree with this.

The best thing the team can do to help his case is win more games, the more games they win, the more they're gonna dig unnecessarily deep for another storyline. The knock on Hanson has been that he's never really played for a winner. I think he deserves it though

I still feel bad for him in the same way I felt for Barry... Hopefully this team makes it up to him

I could actually see him getting in 1st time around. He already has several records (most 50s and most games with same team) to his credit and continues to add to his stats. He should have at least 2 more years as well.

7th on the career scoring list. 100 points or so from getting all the way to 3. Won't be able to get any higher I don't think. It would be pretty sweet if he got to 2000 points, 75 away.

I think you have to ignore the amount of field goals to an extent. Ofcourse you can't discredit it, but what is his percentage. If his percentage is up there with hof'ers AND he has the FG numbers that he does..then it's not a question in my mind. If he has a lower % than the average HOF'er but has more makes..it'll be a bit harder for him to get in. Longevity is great but as a kicker it's probably less of a deciding factor.

I dont know where this puts him against other hof kickers but here is hansons carreer numbers:

82 % FG and 98.6% XP

Edit:

1911 points in his career...If I did the math right

The novelty of him having the most games with 1 team all-time will greatly help his cause...

He'll get in after Morten Anderson and Gary Anderson get in...which is probably never.

1 legitimate kicker has been inducted Jan Stenerud.

He's not done yet. If the Lions turn into a perennial contender and we can retain some of these guys (Tulluch, Wright, Houston, Avril, C.Williams, Sims, Jackson, etc) for the long haul and give Hanson a real spotlight to shine he'll have as good a chance as any kicker.

Hanson would have to play about 4 more seasons after this one to catch Morten Anderson for most field goals made all-time.

He's over 600 points behind Anderson for the most points ever. Let's say he averages 25 made field goals per year and 35 extra points per year, which could be more given Stafford might throw 35 td's himself - he'd have to play 5 more years beyond this one to have a good chance.

That would put him at 45-46 years old, which isn't outrageous for a kicker. Morten Anderson played until he was 47.

Based on this I'll say he's a Lions hall of famer but not NFL.

Just like RP in the hall, very few. And NFL is tougher, only one as Slick mentioned. He's 16th in FG % with many very close to him. Leads in 50 yarders, 46 of 84 which is pretty damn good. Not sure if that counts last week or this year even.

I can't see him getting in because A) kickers are looked at as non-players by too many people and B) the Lions have basically been losers his entire career. Right or wrong he really has never had to make any big pressure kicks (playoffs, etc). He needed Adam Vinatieri type opportunities to put on his resume. I think that's what will keep him out.

Dempsey, Elam, SebExtakowski ....... just saying

what's the question ? Name 3 kickers who won't get into the NFL Hall Of Fame without paying admission.
