So we're signing him then?

:)

Yeah, he is one of the last players I want. If we do sign him, it better only be to a 1 year deal.

I would love to get him... Telling me we could have Rollins/Peralta over Peralta/Inge... Count me in.

Peralta to 3b and Rollins at SS with Inge and Kelly off the bench?

Hopefully no one thinks he will hit leadoff.

When evaluating Rollins to Detroit, he needs to be compared to Inge I think.

If nothing has happened by Feb. I'll take it. But I think most are against it, now, because we want a better bat. But if nothing happens and Rollins is it, I'm all for it.

Isnt he a really good defensive SS? And can steal tons of bases? Would project as our new leadoff hitter? Would upgrade our weak infield? Has shown in the past that he can contend for batting titles? Is great at hitting balls into the gaps, which in our park would be awesome?

The whole idea of acquiring a 33-year old SS is not appealing to me.

Last 3 years

Peralta .267 BAVG .323 OBP .413 SLG .736 OPS

Rollins .255 BAVG .316 OBP .403 SLG .719 OPS

Inge .230 BAVG .307 OBP .378 SLG .685 OPS

AVG MLB SS .265 BAVG .321 OBP .382 OPS .703 OPS

AVG MLB 3B .260 BAVG .325 OBP .410 OPS .735 OPS

Yes, Rollins would be an offense improvement over Inge. But that improvement is somewhat slight and at what cost? Getting a longer term fix in Headley, Murphy or even Macier Izturis sounds better to me.

You assume Inge improves on last year's numbers. At his age, that might not be in the cards. The 3-year averages may be completely irrelevant b/c of his deterioration.

Inge is 34 and is coming off the worst year of his career. He posted OPS of .720 in 2009 and .718 in 2010. I do not assume anything, but anything close to his 2011 in 2012 will mean he most likely will be unemployed in 2013.

Rollins is 33 and his last 3 year average is what one would likely to see in 2012. And at his age, it is just a matter of time for regression. Additionally, he is looking for at least a 3 year contract.

I have assumed Inge would retire after next year barring some miracle turnaround. Based on the decline, I don't expect much more than .210 out of him (maybe a .600 OPS).

Rollins will most likely be .260-.275 with 60 RBI and an OPS btw .730-.760. The age concern with JR is more than valid. The question is whether he'd have 3 decent years left or if the team would regret a deal by year 3 ala Maggs or Inge last year.

Scratch him off the list...

rollins back with phils on 3-year deal w/ vesting option a fair compromise. 1st reported by @jcrasnick

It's crazy that he got 3 years 33 million. I would not have been happy if the Tigers had signed him for anything like that. And maybe he will end up surprising me and playing well, but I think that it is a pretty bad contract.

IMO Only the Phillies would do that since he's played there so long.
