I'm an unapologetic musical theater geek.

Anybody else looking forward to this on Easter?

So if I google Norm Lewis, the first thing that pops up is Phantom of the Opera. The guy must have range. Not like the highest highs and lowest lows, but the Phantom has to be really comfortable up high to sustain some of the softer high notes and Caiaphas has to be really comfortable down low to not sound like a goon.

did you ever see the Jesus Christ superstar send up Bob Odenkirk and David Cross did on Mr. Show? it's probably better than the original, and this new one.

"Jeepers Creepers semi-star"

(you're welcome)

Yeah, I think you posted this video before, funny, blah blah...

Do you know Bob's dog Olive loves me?

It's been a while since I've seen her, but she always used to jump up to kiss me, sometimes over other dogs. That's how much she loves me.

Beautiful little pit mix; she has greenish and orange hues, I actually once posted a pic of her with Bob on this here board.

Yeah but some people have that range.

I think it will be good.

And...you're a geek.

I thought I was was the geekiest geek on this board, but...WOOOO!

Cool. I was chasing that geek title when I posted the animated Star Trek picture.

I'm really looking forward to Sara Bareilles as Mary Magdalene.

In the show, Mary is a courageous, heroic character. I want to see Sara be brave.

I mostly just know her as one of Ben Folds's go to collaborators. Didn't she write or star in The Waitress? She had something to do with it. (I haven't seen it, but will in May.)

I really liked the parts I saw. Missed most of it, but caught highlights online.

Read a bit of history about the show. Andrew Lloyd Webber hated the original production. It wasn't his vision for the show. More Tim Rice's vision. Webber was involved in the rehearsals for the NBC show, but I imagine he's come round to what it now. Also, the Vatican endorsed the show in 1999 after years of Bishops arguing.

Excellent Caiaphas. Better than the one in the motion picture.

You gotta figure he's angling to get the Elusive Emmy to add the E to the GOT that he's got.

huh. I remember when my grade school class went to see the play, (circa 1993) my dad told me the church hated it and did not support it. I told my religion teacher that, and he said "that's not true. the church was absolutely supportive of it."

they must've just been reading different bishops. I assume my dad was reading Opus Dei, "Mussolini wasn't so bad" types, whereas our religion teacher was reading more New-Agey "Jesus was the Original Hippie" stuff.

Yeah. There was a fair amount of disagreement within Catholicism. I only read about it recently with regard to this show, but it seems there's always been a fraction of American Catholic Bishops that seem to align more with American evangelicals than the Vatican. That split is bigger than ever right now.
