Kings 129 Pistons 107 Final

Does anybody actually watch this shitty team? I have not watched a single minute. I check the box score every morning and read the re-cap.

Looks like Cunningham and Bey had nice games last night. Hayes had another shitty game. I wonder if Hayes and Cunningham can even play together? Two PGs that don't seem to be able to shoot very well.

I really don't like the makeup of this team.

Our stud rookie had an unbelievable game and Detroit still gets thumped. As far as not shooting well Cade has improved quite a bit. Its only been 8 games. But agree this team blows.

Watched about half of it. Team couldn?t shoot whatsoever in the first half, they went on some mini-runs after falling behind big, but they couldn?t sustain anything.

Cade played well and seems like the only good consistent player on this team as far as his overall impact on the floor, he creates open shots for his teammates only for them to throw up brick after brick.

Everyone else is bipolar, Grant looks great some nights then disappears on others. Bey has been horribly inconsistent. Killian has looked better at times, not sure how much that thumb is bothering him. Stewart is fine if he can avoid foul trouble. The bench is also horribly inconsistent.

I also can?t figure out Casey?s game plan. Cade should be running the offense more than he has thus far. This team has been awful shooting the ball all season, I don?t think it?s bad luck at this point. They have some young guys playing well in the G league, yet we have to endure guys like Corey Joseph and Frank Jackson every game.

Team is really hard to watch right now. I really don?t get the plan either right now.

like I said...I haven't watched them yet. It appears that their plan is to get a bunch of young guys, throw them out there, and see if any are good.

That doesn't seem like a very good plan.

If Cunningham ends up being an all star type player in 2 years they can turn it around. Until then it'll probably just be flashes of him putting up stats.

Honestly wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if they got another high draft pick this year.

I think the gameplan is more obvious than is being given credit here. Let's remember this was a terrible team last year, and our one real addition was hurt through training camp and preseason. This was always going to be a bad team this year. Once you accept that part, the gameplan kind of writes itself.

The team NEEDS to figure out if Hayes can become something useful. That's why he's starting. That's why we're trying to use him as a true PG. His passing is a legitimate NBA skill, but he HAS to develop some ability to finish his drives or shoot. And to do that, he needs minutes.

Cade is still working himself into form. Obviously this last game was good, but we shouldn't expect 50% shooting and 45% from three to suddenly be his new normal. He's still very much figuring out the NBA game (just look at his abyssmal finishing and FTAs to see an obvious area of improvement), and taking some ballhandling duties off his hands (again, forcing Hayes to do something) is a smart plan. Let him figure things out, and increase his time on the ball as the year goes on (and potentially as faith in Hayes wanes).

Bey showed last year he can be a fine 3 and D player. But since the team is terrible no matter what, it makes sense to let him try to expand his role and see if he can handle more responsibility. He's taking a lot more shots this year, a lot more that he's expected to create himself, and his numbers overall reflect his struggles. It would be nice if he kept his 3pt % up, but that's also a weakness of the team. Check out the starting lineups from every game this year (or the whole team for that matter). There are really no shooters. It's not surprising that the one guy who CAN be a good shooter might get more defensive attention on the perimeter.

Honestly, the rest of the team only maybe matters. Grant is a volume scorer, whose best role is as a 3rd or 4th option on a good team. Stewart NEEDS to develop a perimeter game if he's ever going to be more than a hustle-guy. Losing a ton of games this year and landing another top pick has way more value to this team than trying to squeeze the best possible lineup out of the team today.

I still don't get the fit with Hayes and Cunningham. I just don't see them on the floor together being a good fit at all.

Basically they have 2 or 3 starting caliber players on the entire roster. Cunningham (a potential difference maker down the road), a 3 and D player who is probably more of a 6th man, and an over rated volume scorer.

This is the first time I?m watching the Pistons since probably SVG?s first year. So used to watching them in more competitive years that I have to remember that winning isn?t exactly the goal right now. Weaver blew this team up (correct decision IMO) rather than the retooling/keeping the band together BS that left them mediocre for years.

I probably need to watch this team the same way I watch the Lions right now lol

@tom, Hayes really doesn't fit with Cade right now. He has no off ball skills. But if they can figure something out together, it's one less position we need to fill going forward. The team knows which of those two is more important. And Killian is just 20, with less than half a season of actual NBA experience. Neither he nor Cade are close to being a finished product.

@grandy, do you mean watching them knowing they are in a full rebuild, or giving up all hope that you'll ever see them amount to anything in your lifetime? I don't think it's fair to watch anyone else "like the Lions."

Definitely the former. I have no interest in whether the Lions win or lose right now, my only focus is on how the young players and coaches are doing. I?ve felt way more invested watching the Pistons this year and it?s been frustrating at times, but I need to realize that their situations aren?t all that different right now, though I think the Pistons have a better foundation right now.
