And most people on these boards think that he is a terrible manager and deserves to be fired. I guess the voters are morons!

Congrats to JL.

It's tradition to hate your manager. I'm sure a sizable portion of TB fans hate Maddon.

so...150 of the 400 fans hate Maddon!

400? You are overestimating their support!

That was this years attendance..guess we don't know how many of those 400 visited the park more than once.

Good choices. No problem with Gibby or Maddon winning. Strong finish for JL too. He did a good job making things work with a heavy rotation of guys with issues and injuries.

the people of Detroit got hosed.

Detroit Sports media conducting an interview with Leyland:

DSM : "So Jim, tell us how you feel finishing second in the 2011 Manager of the year vote".

Leyland : "Well first, puff, puff, puff, I want to congratulate Joe Maddon on winning, puff, puff, puff, puff, and second, I want to give my thanks to puff, puff, puff, my number one fan Hellifino for all his support through the years", puff, puff, puff. ;)

How did Joe Maddon get left off a ballot? He got 26 first place votes and 1 second place. Leyland and Washington got the other first place votes.

Easy...each writer votes for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. With managers like Sciosia getting a 2nd and 3rd place vote, I assume a writer voted him instead of Maddon. 1st = 28 votes, 2nd = 28 votes and 3rd = 28 votes.

I understand how it happens. But who in their right mind would not think that Maddon was not a top 3 manager this year in the AL.

I don't give smoker enough credit, how anyone can screw up a lineup like he does, or gives players too many days off and really doesn't know how to work a bullpen. how anyone can work beyond all of these disabilities and still gets to the ALDS, has to be in the running for manager of the year.
