Lions pick up Ansahs 5th year option

I figured it was coming soon.. many players got their last year option picked up since the draft ended.

2013 apparently wasn't a good draft (at least in round 1). At least not enough to pickup their 5th year option.

Twelve first-round selections in the 2013 draft, including five top-10 selections, had their fifth-year options for the 2017 season declined Monday.

Luke Joeckel 2nd pick
Barkevious Mingo 6th pick
Jonathan Cooper 7th pick
Dee Milliner 9th pick
Chance Warmack 10th pick
D.J. Hayden 12th pick
EJ Manuel 16th pick
Jarvis Jones 17th pick
Datone Jones 26th pick
Sylvester Williams 28th pick
Cordarrelle Patterson 29th pick
Matt Elam 32nd pick

Well, good thing I'm not a GM. I wanted Fisher, Joeckel, and Warmack before Ansah. I really liked Warmack that draft. Thought he would be a perennial pro bowler.

I wanted Milliner at one point

I do remember not wanting anything to do with Joekel....but I also wanted Milliner.

It's also worth pointing out that even though Mayhew had just about everyone to choose from, he probably picked the single best player to come out of that entire first round. Sheldon Richardson from the Jets was a good pick......but the rest of that first round is pretty average overall.

Great job Mayhew!!

I think most of us were hoping for Milliner or Joeckel. That was supposedly one of the strongest draft classes of all time too.

Wow... that turned out to be ugly. Glad we got a guy worth taking out of that mess.

I was on the Milliner bandwagon as well.. Thought Ansah was a bit too raw. Glad it worked out.

Just in case you guys forgot.

If you guys don't like Ansah there are going to be some pretty disappointed people on this board come draft day. If I had to bet right now I'd put my money on him as the favorite.

By the way I hated Decker's film this year. I hope I'm as wrong on him as I was right on Ansah.

I wanted Milliner but my main reason was I thought there was enough DE depth that draft to get a quality starter in Rd 2. seconded by the fact our starting CBs were lousy. Glad we picked Ansah.
