Lions release T.J. Lang and officially retires

Im not surprised. Been waiting for this for a while. It sucks that he was hurt because the line was a very good unit when he was healthy. But he just couldn't stay healthy.

He needs to retire before he ends up mush brain ...Now release Wagner too , he's been average at best

The Lions releasing T.J. Lang does give the franchise a little bit more than $8.5 million more in cap space but it also creates a large hole on the offensive line.

Detroit will have some flexibility since both Frank Ragnow and Graham Glasgow can play guard and center, so the club can go after whichever interior offensive linemen they would think fits best in the draft or free agency.

And there was little way Detroit could have justified keeping Lang with the $11 million-plus cap hit he would have be on the books for in 2019. Lang was a smart addition at the time for the Lions and when he was healthy, he was outstanding -- including a Pro Bowl appearance.
But injuries were the main issue with the Michigan native and the franchise just couldn't have relied on him again.

When it comes to free agency, this extra money could give Detroit some flexibility to go after a high-level option like Landon Collins or Trey Flowers. Denver center Matt Paradis, Bills guard John Miller, Chiefs center Mitch Morse and Rams guard Rodger Saffold are the best potential offensive line options in free agency.

Whatever way they go....we now have ANOTHER hole to fill. Even if Crosby makes the switch to RG you need a back up tackle.

Don't be so negative Hughes this is what we have all wanted/known was coming and that 9 mil could very well help us land Collins or Flowers or Saffold.... I'll take any of the 3 please.

Why would any 3 come here..

How has that worked in the past?

What do u even mean? We've signed plenty of people in the past that people didn't think we had a shot of getting. We might not be someones first choice in teams to go to, but don't act like if we were offering more than any other team that any of those 3 would say no just because we're Detroit. That's not happening. They will take the money and run.

Sometimes we have been the bargaining chip for players to get more money from another team. But other than being the highest bidder, Landon Collins could come to play here because of Snacks and Kennard. Flowers could come here because Patricia is the coach. I don't have a connection for Saffold but all three will want the most money they can get in their most likely last big contract.

Collin is predicted to get around $13 million a year. Saffold to get around $9 million a year. Flowers around $17 million a year. Would I pay that for all of those guys...No. Saffold's price isn't crazy. I would rather have Tyrann Mathieu at $9 million a year than Collins. Dante Fowler on a one year prove it deal than Flowers. But cash is king and will most likely decide where free agents go.
