Detroit Lions sign cornerback Rashaan Melvin.
The Lions have added another cornerback in free agency, and he could be the starter opposite Darius Slay.

The Lions might have found another option to start at corner as they have signed Rashaan Melvin to a one-year deal according to Adam Schefter. Melvin, who was with Oakland last year, played with New England in 2015.

Lions signed CB Rashaan Melvin to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
An outside corner with size, Melvin was miscast in Oakland's Cover-2 last year. He made just seven starts and wasn't effective for the 59 percent of snaps he was on the field. Melvin is a better fit in Detroit's multiple scheme — he played under Matt Patricia with the Patriots in 2015. With Nevin Lawson gone, this gives the Lions a veteran fallback opposite Darius Slay.

Nice signing...worst case hes good depth.

Slay, Melvin and Coleman is already better than what we had last year. Could add a starter in the draft still to solidify the group.

Mo Claborne is somehow still on 29...same age as Melvin...not sure at this point who has more upside.

If i had to pick 1 guy in FA to play accross from Slay it would have been Grimes eventhough hes 36 now.

Love it. Lions seemed, to me, to lose interest in CB’s after the combine. Maybe they didn’t like Greedy’s combine enough to take him at 8.

White seems to be the best bet right now, if he’s there.

This is a very good short term need fill.

Seems like you could trade down to about 15ish and all 3 top corners might still be on the board at this point.

from what I have read there aren't any CB's in this draft that "grade out" as first round picks.

One more pass rusher and dominate at pick 8. Get cb on day 2

I wouldn't mind Oruwariye in the 2nd. If they are good with Coleman and Melvin id go Ferguson.

Won't lie, I don't know much about this Oruwariye kid, but that highlight reel has me drooling. Wow, that kid plays, and it looks like he plays very physical with solid size and A+ hands.

Don't want to sound like a Youtube Scout, like Mayhew here, but that is an impressive set of tape.

Am a penn state alum, he is a good player. Did get beat in some big games but made a ton of plays. Ballhawk

I have seen David Long mentioned the Lions are interested in along with Amani Oruwariye.

Breakdown of Rashaan Melvin's one-year, $2.15 million contract with the Lions. He has $1.3 million in base salary with a $600,000 signing bonus. $100,000 of his base salary is guaranteed.
He has a $150,000 roster bonus ($9,375 per game on the 46-man roster) and a $100,000 workout bonus.
His dead money is $700,000 and cap hit is $2,131,250.
This is less than what DeShawn Shead signed for last year with Detroit.
