Lions simplifying blocking schemes

Seems like Caldwell wants it to fail, lol. If this helps the run game over the second half of the season, Caldwell should be fired, for this alone. I'm really sick of Caldwell at this point, guy thinks he's is an offensive genius, is failing miserably, and doesn't seem open to change. I hope he's gone before the season is over. Imo, simplifying blocking should be a mid game adjustment, not something done after a half season of not being able to run the ball.

If they can't pick it up .. certainly don't want to make the scheme more complicated.

Don't pull the center to block the right end.

Don't have the RB block a specific gap instead of noticing an obvious blitzer.

I just don't get why they haven't tried this yet? Have Lombardi or Caldwell ever been a part of a solid running team? To me, this interview just shows how stubborn Caldwell is and or how stupid he is.

Reminds me of that article I posted a while back. You've got big guys meant for a straight up power blocking game and instead you try to finesse it with zone blocking that is meant for more agile linemen. Whatever, anything to fuck the draft pick but save his job I guess.

I'm kind of on the fence on whether I want this team to win this year, or a fresh start with a different staff next year. Leaning towards a fresh start with coaches that use their players properly, and play to their strengths

I'm not on the fence. This thing needs to blow up. I don't "root" for them to lose, but them losing is much better than going 6-10 and giving the organization a shittier draft pick and doubts about keeping their current regime.

I am sure the scheme needs to be simplified based on what I have seen. Start with "put your hands on someone and push them back." Because that has somehow escaped the current scheme.

I won't root for them to lose but it will suck if 6 wins are enough for anyone to keep their jobs.

The only teams on their schedule they can beat are KC, San Fran, and at Chicago. The rest are losses.

Sorry, they better not beat KC. If they win their way to #10 pick, that will suck more than not winning another game.

Now that the first dominos have been kicked over, they all need to fall. It's a mess to clean up, but doing a complete job in one shot is better than doing a little bit over a longer time span. I was done with this staff when Caldwell waved the white flag vs Arizona. I didn't really like them much before that, but that was too much. Any coach who gives up as early in the game as he did, when there was still a long shot chance as opposed to zero chance...that coach does not deserve an ounce of respect.

They needed OT to beat Bears at home, they should outright lose at Chicago.

They will win just enough to get the 10th pick again.

"With the 10th pick of the 2016 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions select, Nick Vannett, TE, Ohio State Buckeyes"

Don't run away from the guy right infront of you would be another good rule to follow lol.

It certainly feels like a finish strong and then just blame Lombardi for the poor start kinda year....that would soooooo be the lions lol. That being said ill be pissed if anyone with half a brain allows mayhew to use Lombardi as a scapegoat for this debacle.

I am convinced that 50% of our issue this season is the O-line and 50% is the D-line. I think we could be a much better team if they just played to their capabilities.

If we have to simplify things to get better blocking up front, so be it, but until we block someone.. anyone... pretend to block someone.. whatever, this team isn't winning anything.

Start with "This is a football" ...

And you'd be 50% wrong ;-) I think it's 25% OL, 25% DL, 50% everything else.
