Lions simplifying blocking schemes

The oline scheme definitely like like the biggest issue facing the offense. I don't think the players were put in a place to succeed. They have big straight ahead blockers that aren't great athletes. Do basic pulls and maybe some downhill angle blocking and let them play to their strengths. Simplify the line calls and get a hat on a hat. Will they have an explosive run game...no. will they get more than they are now....probably.

We have never had a "good" run game since Barry Sanders. I doubt simplifying the scheme is the magic elixir.

Doesn't matter what they do because they don't know what they're doing. I could make all kinds of suggestions about how NASA should pilot rockets into outer space, but none of them are going to work because I don't know enough about rocket science to suggest anything useful.

I'm so sick of hearing people talk about these GMs and how they have "forgotten more than we'll ever know about football."

Is it really that freaking complex? Clearly this guy we have now has no clue how it works.

Well given that Mayhew's an ex ball player and the high rate of CTE they probably got the "forgotten" part right.

I don't think it's all on the GM. I'm less concerned with their individual football knowledge and more concerned about their ability to surround themselves with knowledgeable people (including the development of a competent scouting department). Unfortunately it seems Lion GMs always fail in at least one of those categories.

It's no surprise why second tier executives on consistently good teams get hired for GM positions elsewhere.

This is what they should have done LAST year. Lombardi's OLine needed to be more athletic. We have road graders and straight up power blockers. No finesse bullshit. Hope it works out!!

Yep, they didn't have a clue how to draft the proper personnel to fit their schemes.

Let's just remember that Mayhew drafted Ebron because Lombardi wanted him.

The Ebron pick made sense though. He wanted an athletic pass catching TE. Might be the only pick that turns out lol. The OLine is the problem, not Ebron.

IMO, when you fire Millen after 8 long years you don't sign his underling. Before Mayhew became GM, he was here a number of years including 5 seasons under Millen. Detroit is the only one who hired him.

All around it's a bad deal. I think he's had a enough not to become a consistent winner, time to go elsewhere.

The thing i dont get about the Ebron pick, if he was drafted just to be a receiving threat with no skills for blocking, why not just draft a wr at 10. He was drafted to catch balls and had/has bad hands. The drops have gotten better, but if all he is going to be is a wr why not just draft one

Okay, let me put it in a way that makes sense to you.

They said they wanted one of the "blue chip" prospects from that draft. They wanted Watkins, a WR, but he was gone. They wanted Mack, but he was gone. They wanted Clowney, obviously he was gone.

The last man in the "blue chip" category was Ebron, and we was rated that high by the man we just fired for being a complete retard.

Does it make sense now why we drafted a pure receiving threat with no blocking skills. We hired a man who was supposed to be a genius, and he turned out to be Forrest Gump... and he got his way because the other three they wanted were adios.

.. I have to admit though, Ebron is starting to grow on me, but it could just be because the more he is on the field, the less I see Droptimus Prime.

At least we didn't take Van Noy in the first round

Don't know the answer to that one. From what i have read before, Mayhew was enamored with OBJ but Lombardi begged for Ebron. Lombardi's offense so Mayhew was going to let Joe get his man. Think about this too. We just picked up Tate to be the #2 WR and OBJ got hurt or was hurt (can't remember). So he was behind the 8ball from jump. Would OBJ have such a crazy year as a rookie Lion? I bet not. I don't think he has that type of year with a healthy Cruz either in NY. When he started last year he was the main man because the Giants WRs are weak IMO. This isn't a knock on OBJ. Certain situations put players in better spots for their careers. We may never have even seen those highlights from that kid if Cruz was healthy. Matter of fact i'd bet my life on it......
