There have been a few of these stories recently. I can't believe it's a thing.

Wisconsin did this about 10 years ago, i lived in chicago and it was in the tribune. pretty funny, the kid was interviewed and he said he never went to a wisconsin pep rally with only white kids, but that's where he was pictured

Maybe the guy grew up washing dishes for extra money for his family, and his hands just got bleached...

I think it was even longer than that.

*yes, the onion parodied it at the time, and as I see from the date that was 2000.

I thought the thread was about this at first...

Still pretty LOL worthy.

Do you listen to Chicago, just because of their name?

that's not exactly on point, since I know you don't live in Alabama. they just look like the kinda band you'd listen to.

but to answer your question: not intentionally, but they're on classic rock radio like six (6) times an hour here.

I can only stand maybe one song by them. I lump them in with all those mid-late 70's-early 80s bands that sound alike and suck: REO Speedwagon, Journey, Foreigner, Bachmann-Turner overdrive, styx, and Bad Company.

Well, I kind of knew that about those other bands because, of course, I like them, but Chicago is a pretty talented band, actually. At one point they had an all-time classic great drummer.

In any case, I really was only commenting on whether I might listen to Alabama based on something assumed, either in their appearance, their politics, or where they are from. I equate all of those to listening to a band because their name matches the city in which you live.

Country - Southern Rock - Pop, isn't really my cup of tea, but I do like a song or two of the Charlie Daniels band. Does that count for your stereotype? Maybe not - due to them being democrats, but hey not sure what response you really expected?

I didn't think you were a huge country fan, since you're a product of the late 70s - early 80s Detroit-Metro area, but I figured you were probably down with some bands like that, plus country rock bands like the Eagles, and Kenny Loggins. and maybe more country bands like the Oak Ridge Boys.

Eagles - very little, Kenny Loggins - listen only because my wife likes him. She's a parrot head too.

Southern Rock Bands I liked in that era:
Doobie Brothers,
.38 Special
CCR,
Lynyrd Skynyrd (although only some of them)

Detroit-Metro area
J. Geils Band
Bob Seger
Alice Cooper
Mitch Ryder

Criteria I used was do I own more than 1 vinyl album of the artist.

You forgot Boston in your list of "sucky" bands in that era. That is near to my all-time favorite. :*)

I hate the Eagles. Used to like them, but their music has gone moldy. Flying Burrito Brothers ... with Gram Parsons ... whole different story. Still can listen to their music.

I left Boston off the list because I considered them decent... but I guess they are contemporaries of the rest, yeah.

Timothy Schmidt's daughter is one of my neighbors.

Timothy Schmidt of the Eagles - actually he came and left a few times. I don't know what Poco is, but he's a bass player.

Edit: Yeah, okay, he was in Poco too it looks like...I think the Eagles are a little more famous than Poco though...

wow... it's rare than non-political topics get dragged into threads on the politics board. usually it's the other way around.

See the bolded bands I kinda like in small doses. But that's what I grew up on, them and KISS, LED Zeppelin and ZZ Top.
