Glenn Beck has sicked his legion of mouth breathing fans on a movie reviewer that criticized the film. what a tool. it's funny that if the shoe was on the other foot, and the movie reviewer was asking her fans to attack him, he'd be whining about "his First Amendment rights" like a little baby.

I was curious about that legion. Sound like he has 6.5 million listeners and I guess he's not even off TV. It sounds like he's raking in money on some subscription based show that was picked up by Dish Network in 2012 and is in the process of expending to become more than one show.

That all sounds like he's growing, but google trends has his internet search relevance way down. Only 4% of where it was at its peak in 2009.

he's not making headlines for saying shocking things anymore, but the legion of mouthbreathers is not going away. maybe he realized that it's better to keep his show and his viewer base away from public ridicule (which can only hurt him). as long as he keeps everything in the echo-chamber of his show and right-wing media, he has a pretty much captive audience.

same thing with Rush; public pressure and disgust at the things they say may force them off mainstream radio & TV, but they've carved themselves large enough dedicated niche markets of the stupid angry white guy population that they can do quite nicely for themselves as vehicles for viagra, snake oil cures, and gold investment ads. they practically have it down to a science.

edit: i read the wiki on the mission... apparently a few people are pissed at the guy who wrote the book, specifically for the claim that they considered executing Afghani civilians who discovered them in order to maintain their cover... the father of the commander of the SEAL team (who died in the raid) said his son would've never considered that. the writer (Luttrell) claimed they would've done it, if it weren't for "the liberal media." When you're blaming "the liberal media" for your squad getting ambushed you suck at the military.

The movie was good. Fuck the politics of it. It entertained me, just like similar movies, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Hurt Locker.

The movie was pretty good, highly hollywooded, but pretty good. I didn't detect any overtly christian-bible thumper overtones or undertones, it was basically an action flick based on real events. It's accuracy is probably somewhere around the accuracy of the movie Pearl Harbor, which is to say hardly any.

But as a movie, I was entertained, and I would recommend it to people looking to see a good action movie.

I could give a fuck what the real Luttrell or Glen Beck think anyways.

Actually I think it is based on a true story, and certainly may be slanted to show the SEALs as more heroic than reality, but it doesn't stop it from being an entertaining war movie. If say "Zero Dark Thirty" without the happy ending is not something you would enjoy, I would skip it.

I bet you guys think Disney's animated movies are just conspiracies to brain-wash your children with too, right?

Bully for you - you can hate on nearly everything, wrap yourself in your own little cocoon, and say look what that trash is doing to us, and think you've made some real point. You only proved how closed minded you are.

after becoming aware of the relationship between the Pentagon & Hollywood to influence public opinion (plenty of articles have been written on this), I made the decision not to give them my money. I love war movies (Patton, Platoon, Zulu, Seven Samurai, Battle of Algiers, and Apocalypse Now are some of my all-time favorites) but these politicized vehicles to gloss-over U.S. foreign policy are something else.

If you don't watch it how do you know how politicized it is?

I remember a big deal once made by Kevin Smith over his movie Clerks II because Joel Siegel walked out after 15 minutes and wrote a negative review. Smith's point was, how can you give a review on something you have not watched? It's like a food critic looking at a plate of food and saying it tastes terrible without ever having tried it.

You want to call it a matter of principal fine, it's not my place to say you're wrong. But I HAVE seen the movie, and there is 0 propaganda in it about foreign policy, or the mission in Afghanistan, or anything else that I could see. Other than it took a few shots at a large military contractor (Raytheon) for building and shipping shitty radios and coms devices. At one point the squads coms guy rips off his headset and slams his radio down saying "State of the art my ass". the radio was marked big as day as Raytheon.

As far as I could tell this movie had as much to do with us policy as Saving Private Ryan did. Or maybe my principals are just fucked up.

i guess because I've read enough about it to know that it portrays the cause in a positive light... and since we're still there, and there's still a significant and powerful pro-war element pushing invasions of just about every other middle eastern nation, I consider that politicized.

I have seen some movies about Afghanistan (more documentaries) like Restrepo and Armadillo. actually saw the former in a theatre.

I'm not judging anyone else, or you, BTW, just saying I won't go see movies like this.

Well I saw all 3 of the films I mentioned, Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, and Lone Survivor without the studio or production companies making a dime. (online streams) So really the best of both worlds, I got to see entertaining action flicks, and screwed the companies looking to profit from them.

I will say this, the SEALs are portrayed as being slightly super-human in this film, something I would have expected to see in a Stallone/Schwarzenegger movie. The SEALs soak up bullet after bullet and still function at a high capacity, where the Taliban basically fall to pieces after being hit with a single round. But, that's Hollywood for you.

Yeah Kind of not buying the jump down the mountain after being shot a few times... No matter how tough you are if your flipping down he mountain getting you body and head blasted your going to be more then a tad fuzzy... Well I would be dead.... But I guess they are seal's....

My younger cousin worked his way up from Lieutenant in transportation to a Lieutenant colonel in the special forces and he laughed at a lot of war movies I talked with him about.
But then he was wired differently... Always hyper... His last stint in Afghanistan was just as a trainer and I told him to be careful and he laughed and said dude at my rank I don't go out with just 10-12 guys like my younger days.. I have a freaking force field around me I have so many guys protecting me... I guess the military does not like losing guys higher up in rank... It just made me feel better he was safe unlike when he went into Iraq.. I guess LC's are more important then captains because he was a captain the early days of Iraq.

He lives in Colorado now and is retiring this year to open up a brewery.. He likes to make beer. lol

since you mention it... I also thought Hurt Locker was stupid. an hour and a half of roid-raging adrenaline junkies walking around Iraq (somehow without getting their dumb asses shot dead by a sniper or captured) defusing bomb after bomb... bombs only being planted in the first place because we had invaded their country in March 2003...

the studios defend those movies as saying they aren't political and just "tell stories." Bull Shit! going back to the 80's... Top Gun was basically a big budget recruitment video for the Navy. results like this are not just a coincidence.
