Madden Cover Voting

I understand if you don't wanna believe in a curse but at least post accurate information. I'm not gonna go over everyone of these but lets look at a couple. Now you say that Brett Favre had a great season after being on the cover of the 2009 Madden and they still made the playoffs. Well this would have been the 2008 season as Madden 09 debuted in August 2008. The Jets did not make the playoffs that year and just in case you don't remember Favre started the season pretty good but by the time half the season was over he was playing very poorly.

Madden 2010 featured both Polamalu and Fitzgerald. You're correct Fitzgerald did have a good season and played all 16 games, however he finished the season playing with broken ribs. And Polamalu was injured in the season open missed the next like 4 games only to come back and get injured again.

Curse or not, I'd rather not risk it.

Forgot the Jets missed the playoffs, that was my bad. Don't twist my words though... I said he had a "decent season", not a "great season".
As far as Fitzgerald goes, plenty of players finish seasons with injuries, thats not unprecedented at all. And I acknowledged that Troy Polamalu had a bad injury in my post... not sure where you're going with that one.

Madden Curse can be attributed to many things, and certain players have been unaffected by it so I don't see why people still make a big deal of it. There's a good chance Tebow will get on the cover this year and people will drag on about how "The Curse lives on" after he spends this season as a backup or sucks it up in New York... but in reality thats what 90% of us are expecting so its not really much of a curse.

Madden Curse is BS.

2012: Peyton Hillis- Random injuries could be attributed to the curse... Started playing mediocre towards the end of 2010 so regression really wasn't shocking.
2011: Drew Brees- Still had a great season
2010: Larry Fitzerald- Still had a great season, Troy Polamalu-Bad injury, but had previously missed time due to injury so not completely unprecedented
2009: Brett Favre- Decent season, still made playoffs
2008: Vince Young- Playing style was going to eventually get him injured and was a shit passer to begin with
2007: Shaun Alexander- Was eventually going to wear down... Seahawks had given him 300+ carries 5 years in a row
2006: Donovan Mcnabb- Had missed alot of games due to injury previously and had a playing style that made him prone to injury
2005: Ray Lewis- Missed 1.5 games. Still made Pro Bowl.
2004: Michael Vick- Was anybody really surprised that he got injured?
2003: Marshall Faulk- Started wearing down at Age 30 after having been a workhorse his entire career. No surprises there.

Madden Curse is bullshit. Wouldn't be the least bit worried if Calvin was on the cover.

ya thats what i said...the shit is a curse lol! thanks for proving my point more thoroughly. Every one of those years something bad happened with the exception of Brees and Lewis. so if 8/10 times its a curse....no thanks....put someone on a different team on there lol.

2009 Favre had a good season, but don't forget he also ripped the bicep at the end there.

Plus you can go back even further. Garrison Hearst for example broke his ankle the season he was on the cover. Culpepper threw 23 interceptions the year he was on it. Dorsey Levens was banged up a bit, but had a horrible season and got released by the Packers mid year. Barry Sanders ended up retiring and not playing a game the year he made the cover.

And while Brees had a good year in 2010 he still threw a bunch more interceptions and tore his MCL and had to have surgery.

I don't know if I believe in curses, but it sure hasn't made for good luck to be on the cover.

I would love to see Calvin or Staff on the cover of Madden '13.

I don't believe in curses..........

Maybe Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers could share the cover!! I dont generally believe in curses but this madden cover has left a path of carnage.

Using injury and attaining a playoff berth as variables:

63% of NFL players received an injury during the 2010 season up from 2002-2009 which was still 59%. IR injuries were up to 13% from 10% over that same period. Therefore you are more likely to get injured than you are not during a season. This is no doubt dependent on the number of snaps you play and the position you play which the cover player is usually: A. a star player that plays a ton of snaps and B. a position that is subject to injury QB, RB.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...njuries-increased-in-2010-over-previous-years

Current list of consecutive playoff appearances by teams:

Ravens - 4
GB - 3
NE - 3
NO - 3
Pitt - 2
ATL - 2

Meaning 26 of the 32 teams didn't repeat their playoff appearance roughly 80%. There is parity in the NFL even great teams rarely repeat the previous seasons performance. SB winners repeating is even more of a statistical anomaly.

Therefore the odds of getting injured and or having a year where you do not make the playoffs are pretty high. Add into that the fact that most cover players are coming off what can be considered a statistical outlier in their career and the downright bad cover choices Young, Hillis, Cpep, and you have a recipe for a curse.

That being said keep the man that was called Matt Glassford or Matt Stafford "if he is healthy" as far away from the Madden cover as possible, lest we tempt the statistical gods.

I don't really believe in "cursed" but why risk it? I'm wrong way too often to trust what I believe anyway.

Is the Curse only for a year?

Saints Bounty/Losing to Seattle in playoffs
Ray Lewis Arrested
Young, Culpepper & McNabb becoming nobodies
Vick dog fighting

Has anybody been to the Superbowl after being on the game?

Has any teams made it to the Superbowl or won it tens years time of one of their players being on the cover? I know Green Bay had Levens on it a long time ago.

Drew Brees had nothing to do with that bounty program. The curse is always on the player, not the team. He had a pretty damn good year last season.

Why couldn't it be on the team as well as the player? How many of those teams have succeeded with the big one after being on the cover?

Brees wasn't part of the bounty program, but the year he was on the cover he threw twice as many INTs as ever before or since, and tore is MCL and needed off-season surgery.

Curse may not have wrecked him, but it wasn't kind to him either.
