When the father of the player who passed away came out and said it was like he had been punched in the stomach you could see the wheels start to turn. They just couldnt keep Durkin. I know if I had a son with a Maryland offer he wouldnt be going there.

So apparently after the one practice Durkin coached before he got fired, a bunch of players cornered their punter and beat the shit out of him for talking to investigators. link.

It also sounds like Maryland's president was the one who finally grew a pair and fired Durkin, still counter to the board's plan.

Going to take a hell of a coaching job from Matt Canada to keep that team together.
