his offensive stats speak for themselves.

Dirks has played 3.24 times more ABs then Matt and if you adjust Matt's stats, he'd already have 19 HRs, 71 RBIs, 22 2Bs, 49 runs.

the top LFers are getting at least 320 ABs so if you adjust matt's stats to them he'd have: 23 HRs, 26 doubles, 83 RBIs, and 56 runs

Granted he's never really been a starter before but his numbers speak for themselves. I say if they can't find somebody before the trade deadline, make Matt the starting LF. fielding wise he is not too shabby either

while he has been good this year he is more than likely playing way above his head. He is the 2013 version of Dirks 2012 season. That said....Dirks sucks and I would rather have Tui in there. Dirks is the better defensive player though.

So, we are supposed to ignore his 9 previous years of playing professional baseball and just use this year's numbers?

While I wouldn't be against letting him play more often, I am not naive to think he is the solution long-term in LF.

And stop using ABs as a way to figure out stats. It is based on Plate Appearances. More walks = less ABs.

he has only played three in the majors

since you have used ABs...he has 278 career ML ABs and only hit .223

He is 27. Some people here (including myself) think Chris Davis is on PED's. Tui is 27 and has never had any ML success. He is a good cantidate for being a PED user too

DUH...and he has spent 10 years total in professional baseball.

Players do not change who they are after age 25 without using PEDs. Tuiasosopo is 27.

Anyone can look pretty good for a small sample size. Chris Shelton's 2006. This year's Justin Upton for the month of April.

Exactly, ive been saying this for a while. We're playing with house money when it comes to his production.

It's a really sad that people have to jump to PED use anytime someone not on their team performs well. I have yet to understand how taking any PED makes a guy hit for a higher average, higher OBP, etc. PED's may explain increasing power numbers, but how does it help your timing/eye-hand-coordination/or plate discipline?

Davis always had power, it's plate discipline that's improved this year. walks are way up, K's are way down. you can have a career year that's sustainable if you do that as opposed to a high BAIP

I was mostly talking about Tom insinuating that Tuiasosopo was a PED user, and wondered how he could explain his OBP and BA being a product of PED.

There are such things as flukes, and right now Tooey is probably riding one, same with Davis to some extent, but Tom only see's PED use as a possible explanation.

Flukes/career spikes are part of the game.

1996 Brady Anderson (32)
2000 Darin Erstad (26)
1993 Rick Wilkins (26)
1973 Davy Johnson (30)
2003 Bill Mueller (32)
2008 Xavier Nady (29)
2001 Rich Aurilia (29)
1987 Larry Sheets (27)
1987 Matt Nokes (23)
1986 Darnell Coles (24)

but when they're accompanied by better plate discipline they are sustainable, do you agree?

A fluke year is defined as .025 point increase over Career BAVG, without significantly improving one's walk rate.

What this doesn't take into affect, is if the player switched to a "hitter's park" or vice versa.

Bottom line, if there is no change in walk rate, then any increase is almost unsustainable.

He should at least new given.more time to see of its a fluke our off he has turned the corner

You always ride a hot stallion, if that is what you mean. But don't expect anything after this year at this same level.

I wouldnt expect anything different after this week. Without looking id bet that hes getting a higher percentage of abs vs lhp. I know hes hitting rhp well this year but thats a small sample. Platoon guys can outperform overall numbers while being platooned based on matchup advantage

Really this is what aggravates me. Tui is obviously not going to maintain the level he's at for an extended period, yet he's still usually only getting 2, sometimes 3 AB's per game. If a guy is hot, it should not matter who you have to bench to get him playing time, and in the case of Dirks....it's not like were losing anything but a slight improvement on defense.

Play Tooey until he he shows he needs to be benched/DFA/Traded, etc.

of course you still play him but I don't think you make him the starting LF. you continue to use him the same way

I think the overall feel of the board is that he should get a chance at the fulltime gig for awhile. I don't believe anyone here thinks he's gonna keep hitting at the pace he's done so far, but what exactly are you losing by giving him a shot?
