Get Startedglad to hear
he is probably nearing end of his career, his daughter lives here and there is grand child (maybe more by now)
he coached DL for Jack H at Western (which is how he and brady got to know each other)
Maybe Harbaugh could keep Hoke on as the "Running Around in Shorts and Freezing His Ass During the Spring Scrimmage" coach.
Personally, I would rather him be in an advisory role. I know that he did a good job with the defense in his time here, but I'd like this to be 100% Jim's team. I don't know the relationship Mattison and Jim have, though, so maybe it could work.
I don't think he's ever coached with Jim, but he's coached for his dad and brother so maybe they gave him solid endorsement.
I didn't realize he'd coached with Jack, but now that you mention John Harbaugh, I remember those two had coached together in Baltimore. It'll be interesting in the next few months to see what Jim does with recruiting and his coaching staff.
So what is definite?
MGoBlue.com only has Harbaugh listed now.
I guess we can pencil in Mattison somewhere on the defensive staff.
some sites are reporting Durkin to Ann Arbor is a done deal, but there's no announcement yet. UF site reported on Dec. 30th they expect a deal "within a week."
Drevno appears to be solid as OC, although, nothing official yet either.
DJ Durkin is 36 and has been coaching football since 2001; 2005 if you don't count graduate assistant years.
Greg Mattison is 65 and has been coaching football since 1977.
I know in the MGOBlog world that ignores common sense and human nature when opining about football, there is no problem whatsoever with demoting Mattison to work under Durkin... but anyone else concerned by this rumored approach?
Or maybe there won't be as much of a heirarchy on the defensive staff as the job titles indicate... Durkin being DC isn't really putting him senior to Mattison.
