McShay/Kiper v2.0

I don't understand the CB need that you guys are expressing. The biggest need in our secondary is FS and SS (as long as Houston is resigned). Those were our 2 weakest positions, especially with Delmas out and never healthy all year. In the wide 9 system we run, we just need guys who can get off the ball (Avril, LoJack, Young, and KVB before he took a nose dive). Even Everett Brown had some success in our system last year in the preseason.

Last year the Lions invested in the future, getting corners and lb's to develop. This year I hope they look at the Safety position and stock up on guys who can locate the ball. I'd much rather see us trade down a couple spots and maybe pick up an extra 3rd round pick. Even if we don't though, drafting Kenny Vaccaro at #5 still gets you a day 1 starter who will make a huge impact on our secondary.

youre forgetting the most important thing. Mayhew doesn't reach for need. He only picks BPA which equates to someone we might use in a couple years (Reiff and Broyles). He has no interest in filling starters we need.

Bartell and Bentley are our current starters at CB....theres a definite need and no guarantee Houston will be back especially if someone will overpay for him and give him a longer deal.

I think Mayhew will have a different strategy this year. Even if he says he won't. He's backed into a corner. He drafted Reiff as the future because of Backus. He drafted Broyles for the future because of Burleson. This year is different now. KVB, Peterman, Young all gone with a possibility of Houston, Raiola, Durant, Levy and God knows who else off the roster. HE HAS to plug in starters immediately. There should be no talk of future this or future that.....

Its been noted and is more fact than fiction that good CB need to be drafted in round 1 or 2. The CB they've drafted after that, are more fillers IMO. I would love a S or two but there is so much we need. Secondary help, DE's and OL help. I wouldn't mind if we went DE, S and G first three rounds. But I doubt we get 2 new safeties when Delmas is on the team, injuries or not.

DE right now looks worse than CB...or are equal lol....i don't know much about milliner..but to me he looks good but not great. from everything i read..do not reach at number 5..at number 5 you are looking for great..not solid..i think at number 5 you go bpa...my order is this..moore, werner, joeckel,...

even with werner..i'm not sure..so don't look too much into it...

I disagree. Jonte Green improved throughout the season and Bentley is built for the nickle and should make Lacy expendable (I know, doesn't say much, but does save money).

Couldn't agree more, BPA is opinion based, so whoever they draft will be "BPA". Mayhew admitted last year that he over estimated the talent on the team, so they drafted for the future. This year he'll be filling holes.

You'd notice that I went DE, G and S without mentioning CB. Doesn't mean I think they are worthy but a Wide 9 nine, we need S.

the more i look into it..the more bs it is when you guys say you can only get a top CB in rounds 1 and 2...i mean..technically your right..because alot of them are top picks...but when i look into other positions like it's any different...it isn't..all of the top talent at every position is almost dominated by first and second round picks..

Yeah what team were you watching? He definitely improved from the beginning of the season

what i should say is..i think he still wasn't good at the end of the year..he was still a poor player..he was a rookie 6th round pick..so there is definitely time to keep improving his game..but i'm not going to get excited from anything he did last year at all..

going from shitty to less shitty doesnt mean the lions all of a sudden found an answer for their cb situation. Its a huge need on this team. Green should never be anything more than the 4th cb on the field.

I never said he was "the answer" but saying he didnt improve is ridiculous! You can't expect a 6th rd draft pick to be all pro his first season. He did a solid job filling in. Did way better than Lacey if you ask me

thats fair. although being better than lacey isnt saying much. If we started the season today wed have bartell, bentley and green lined up on cobb, jones, and Nelson.....it needs to be addressed often this off season. Bringing houston back wont be as easy as people think imo. Detroit already gave him a short term deal that wasnt worth much...he will be looking for his money now.

Teams always find gems at safety later in the draft. Corner.. Not so much. I'd love to have Rambo in the 3rd after taking Poyer in the 2nd.

i changed my mock to khaseem green olb in the 3rd and dj swearinger S in the 4th. Shawn Williams and Tony Jefferson should be there in the 3rd along with Rambo. Lester might be a good look in the 4th.....not sure what position he will excell at in the next level. He played Safety at bama but it was more of a playmaking LB type scheme. He might be too slow to cover as a S in the NFL?...dunno....

most of the leagues top players..were 1st and 2nd round picks..i'm tellin ya all..it's definitely not just corner..
