ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team (No. 5 USA Today/No. 4 USCHO) defeated the St. Lawrence Saints, 10-3, Thursday night (Oct. 13) at Yost Ice Arena. It was the first time the Wolverines scored 10 goals against an opponent since March 14, 2008 when they defeated Nebraska-Omaha, 10-1.

Senior captain Luke Glendening (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led the charge for the Wolverines with a hat trick, the first of his career. David Wohlberg (South Lyon, Mich.) finished with four points (1g, 3a) and Greg Pateryn (Sterling Heights, Mich.) contributed three points (1g, 2a) to the victory.

After the Saints' Tommy Thompson registered a goal at 7:49, Glendening broke open the scoring for the Wolverines with his third tally of the season at the 15:33 mark of the period to tie the game, 1-1.

Less than a minute later, Luke Moffatt (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) buried the puck in the back of the St. Lawrence net to bring Michigan's lead to 2-1.

The Wolverines closed out the first-period scoring when A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) put home his third goal of the season to give U-M a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.

Glendening posted his second goal of the night 2:04 into the middle frame, giving the Maize and Blue a 4-1 lead.

St. Lawrence cut the lead to two goals when Thompson netted a power-play goal at the 4:04 mark, but Greg Pateryn (Sterling Heights, Mich.) put the Wolverines back up by three goals at the 6:43 mark of the second period.

Lee Moffie (Wallingford, Conn.) made it a 6-2 game before Glendening completed the hat trick to give Michigan a five-goal advantage. St. Lawrence cut the lead to 7-3 just 0:15 before the second intermission.

Michigan tallied three goals in the third period to hit the double-digit mark, as Phil Di Giuseppe (Maple, Ontario), Lindsay Sparks (Oakville, Ontario) and Wohlberg netted goals for the Wolverines in the final frame.

Goaltender Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Heights, Mich.) made his fourth straight start for U-M, turning aside 27 of 30 shots in 50:46 of action. Adam Janecyk (Ada, Mich.) relieved Hunwick at the 10:46 mark of the third period and stopped both shots he faced in his second appearance of the season.

The Wolverines return to action and open CCHA play with two games at Northern Michigan on Oct. 21-22. The team returns home for a two-game set against Ferris State beginning Thursday, Oct. 27.
