Michigans biggest recruiting busts

Let's not forget the champion of underachievement....Jerrod fricking Ward......our own Felipe Lopez.

And I disagree with Justin Vargas.....if only for the reason of carrying the team to a 40 carry win vs. Northwestern in the shitty weather.

that and if I remember correctly Wisconsin blew out his knee his freshman year. After that he wanted to be close to home I can't blame him. That was back when the B1G used to play defense.

Basketball would have to be Jerod Ward.He was the highschool player of the year and he never came close to living up to that.

I remember all the hype for Felipe Lopez. People talked about him as if he was a basketball god. No way could he have lived up to all that. Another basketball kid they talked about like that was Sebastian Tellfair.

If I'm not mistaken, he was also moved to DB and I'm guessing he didn't care for that too much. That knee injury was awful though.

I think Baraka was from Kalamazoo/Portage

Danny Diggler[/color]]Marquis Slocum...

Ah, good old Marquis Slocum. Every time I hear that name I go and dig up that fb interview.

Bubacar Cissoko has to be on the list as well. One min he is the next great U of M cb. The next he is an inmate in a different kind of bighouse.

I would put him on the list. I gave RR some credit for booting him. I figured that he would sweep everything under the rug, but he took the high ground on Cissoko.

"Recruiting busts" ...?

Why do I suddenly have a hankering for ....brownies?

McGuffie is another guy we heard a lot about and although he only stayed one year he didnt do anything at Rice either

Lavelle Blanchard.. Top 3 overall player but never lived up to the hype.. He was overshadowed by Bernard Robinson Jr..

I remember that name. Didn't he have a problem with the ganja?

Yes he did....wasn't he an Imaly City kid?

Portage, the really scary/amazing thing about him is that he would get blazed out before every single game and still dominate people. CSB time: His best friend lived down the hall from me my Freshman year in college (Kelly's senior year) and he would come through all the time and smoke more weed than anybody I have ever seen.

weird... totally unrelated to this, I just watched that movie "I love you Alice B. Toklas."

It's making me want some brownies too.

McGuffie is high on my list of busts as well. Dude always turned his back after (sometimes even before) the first guy touched him. He probably should have been on the D side of the ball for how frequently he faced that direction.

I also have to throw in Drew Henson. So much promise and talent, but his heart just wasn't in it. Still feel like his leaving UM was worse than Mallett or Boren, mostly because in retrospect DickRod sucked so badly I can't hold any player responsible for leaving that PoS coach for better opportunities, even if that meant going to Ohio*. Granted any other school would have been preferred, but when that school is the closest to family, there is a level of understanding.
