RT @BFeldmanCBS: Mike Martin on D during the Rod era: "it wasn't emphasized much. We were just kinda a supplement to help out the offense."

I just want UM to schedule Arizona and destroy them in the most embarrassing fashion possible.

Yeah, 59-0 in the Big House. Show RR the importance of defense with a field goal thrown in for good measure! :)

meh... If he still hasn't learned the importance of a good defense after his 6-18 Big Ten record, he's going to learn it after a similar stretch in the PAC12.

I know people run the PAC-12 down for being weak, and that may be true top-to-bottom compared to the SEC, but if you're going to put the PAC-12 up against the Big East, you would be fooling yourself. RR is not going to be more successful in the PAC-12.

The good PAC-12 teams have much better athletes than WVU, Louisville or Pitt. sandlot ball isn't going to work against USC, Oregon, Stanford, or Cal, any more than it did against Illinois, ohio, MSU, or PennSt

Unless RR is going to bring in Oregon-caliber athletes (and I don't think Arizona has that sort of $$$) he's going to struggle there too. Maybe not as badly as he did in the Big Ten, but I think he's def going to be on the losing end of some 59-0 beatings, especially in year 1. We don't need to stoop to the level of playing them.

I am not sure RR would ever agree to a game at the bighouse.

There is a big difference in expectations at Zona then here. You can go 7-6 at Zona and be applauded

RR is already inheriting the 3rd worst pass defense in college football. Can he and Gibson make it the worst in one season? I think they have it in them!

Also, RR said he wanted to play Michigan and I think he is stupid and arrogant enough to take a game in the Big House.

At least Arizona sucks already.

If he turns things around there, he'll continue with his perfect record with turning programs around.

uh, except for the glaring failure of 3 years in Ann Arbor...

Oh, I'm counting Ann Arbor in his program turnaround count, to be sure...he turned Michigan around like no coach had done in Michigan's history.

ah, the negative turnaround.

indeed he did. he achieved things no Michigan coach has achieved before, and hopefully never will again.

Zing

The much feared Negative turn around.

What kind of M career would Martin have had under Hoke/Mattison?! Shame...

while we obviously wouldn't have seen the sort of quantum leap we saw from 2010 to 2011 every year, there's reason to expect that maybe our D could've been even better this year if we hadn't had to endure 3 years of that clown RR.

still, it's easy to make huge gains when you're coming off a defensive season like we had in 2010. improving or playing consistently good is another challenge altogether.

I think that was what Carr's defenses struggled with: when you're at worst a top 30 defense every year, finding the motivation to put in the work to improve on that is not as easy.

It will be interesting to see how our defense is this year. I really think Hoke and Mattison spent at least half their time deprogramming the players of what they thought they knew about defense.

Carr's defense were always so terrible against mobile qbs. Vincent young gave them enough motivation for years
