MSU @ Wisky

I was playing basketball and am glad I missed this game, I didn't expect to win anyways. Nice of Dawson to show up. Purdue is a must win next week.

Basically had benched Dawson. There's more going on here than we know about. Need another win to get in.

If I was a 5 star recruit I wouldn't play for Izzo. It kills me to say that, but it's so true. I don't blame these kids for going elsewhere.

I knew when he booted Kenny Kaminski this season was going to be rough. Just off the top of my head, Kaminski, Chris Allen, Lucious, Brandon Cotton. Not sure why Sherman left. I suppose its normal to be in charge and enforce penalties on poor behaviour but I have to wonder if Tom Izzo is a bit overzealous.

With Lucious and Green as seniors MSU would've won a championship. That one still stings big time with me. He was one of my favorite Spartans.

I'm just confused on the whole Dawson situation. He came in as a 5 star and a top 20 player on every single scouting site. He's built like an NBA player but has not improved one bit since he came here. Hasn't learned to dribble, hasn't learned to shoot, hasn't learned to finish around the rim, hell he hasn't even learned how to catch the damn ball. He's good for at least 3-5 dumb turnovers where he just losses the ball. Is it all Izzo? I don't know, but benching him his senior year sends a bad message to all the recruits.

Dawson didn't have the best game the other night, but had been playing pretty well prior to that. It didn't seem like the right time to be sending messages like that on the road against a really good opponent, unless there is more to it than we know.

I'm hearing that his son is sick with pneumonia, in the hospital. Some people are saying he was with him up until the team left for their flight. Not sure if he practiced or not prior to the game

It kills me that Izzo has a losing record against Bo Ryan - I really can't stand that guy. But, at the end of the day, he's probably a better coach than Izzo. How he could blow 2 games up 3 late by not fouling in one season is beyond me. I don't see how benching top players, as mediocre as they are (like Dawson and Trice) is going to accomplish anything. I don't think he has a motivation problem and if he did, he doesn't have the horses that can respond to that kind of tactic. It's not like he has 5 McD AA's that aren't putting in the effort and just need a kick in the ass. Although, in the case of Trice, I agree with the move and think he should be getting Nairn as much time as possible - and said as much a month ago that he should give up on Trice and just prepare Nairn for next year.

Hard to argue with his record and the final fours, but he hasn't really turned it into consistent success in recruiting. the 2010 and 2011 classes were very good and nobody could have seen that Dawson would turn out to be little more than a great athlete that dominated in high school but massively disappointed in college. Is that on Izzo? Can he not develop talent? Look at how Green turned out - few expected him to have anywhere near the success he has had. How much credit does Izzo get for that? Hard to say but it's incredibly frustrating to see guys like Thad Matta land studs left and right while Izzo can't seem to consistently land elite players.

Bo Ryan now leads Izzo 14-12.

Who are the stud recruits Matta keeps landing? Do they even have a 5 star on their current roster? Izzo missed on a couple big names a couple years when he went for broke, (Jones, Okafor, Parker, and Alexander who is now under NCAA investigation and not playing). He's got a great class coming in next year regardless of if Swannigan or Langford join it. The rest of the B1G wishes they recruited like Izzo, we will have had at least 1 McD's All American on our roster for about 15 years. I don't think any other B1G team can say that.

This year's team is about what we expected it to be, basically a low seed tourney team. Even Duke and Kentucky have down years, Kentucky missed the tourney all together 2 years ago. A down year for Izzo is making the tourney and finishing 4th or 5th in the Big Ten.

With Eron Harris and Deyonta Davis coming in along with a few other nice new pieces 2015-16 should be a year we contend for the B1G title again. Add Swannigan and/or Langford and the team could be one of the elite teams in the nation.

Deangelo Russell was a 5 star for OSU, if you meant to say Bo Ryan I know that dekker was a 5 star, before that his last may have been Brian Butch. they play a boring but effective style by slowing the game down, waiting for mistakes, then throwing up slop late in the clock if needed. they don't turn it over, not because they have great ball handlers, it's just because they play so slowly. I know they don't foul a lot but they have that reputation so it snowballs, Ryan looks like a deer in the headlights when he doesn't get a call his way.

MSU will be fine long term, our class next year is what we should be bringing in every year, with at least one elite player and then some good complimentary guys. Getting Erron Harris will be like landing a 5 star guard as well, we should be fine. this year is the result of recruiting misses in the last 2-3 years.

Also I hate the fact the Izzo constantly plays defense strictly inside the three point arch. I wish he would stretch it out to put a little pressure on the guards. This way teams just hold the ball up top and run their offense without any worry of a steal. It drives me nuts!

This is just simply not correct. Ever heard of D'Angelo Russell? Freshman averaging 19 pts per game - was ranked 18th in the nation by Rivals. Since 2000, OSU has had 12 McD AA's vs. 9 for MSU. Matta has 11 of those 12 since his first recruiting class in '05 while Izzo has picked up just 3 over that period. Matta had 3 McD AAs in the same class in '06 and has had 2 McD AA's in the same class 3 times while Izzo hasn't had more than 1, if any since 2003. Among his 11 McD AA's Matta has landed three players ranked in the top 10 nationally (#1, #2 and #8) and 6 more ranked in the top 25. Face it, Matta routinely out-recruits Izzo. It's not even close. Period.

Creen recruits as well as Izzo lately - he has 4 McD AAs in just 5 years plus the way underrated Oladipo is just as good a pick up as Green who only came to MSU after Tubby Smith resigned at Kentucky. So, if by "the rest of the B1G" you mean Iowa, Minn, NU, RU, PSU - I'm sure they wish they recruited as well as Izzo but there are a couple that out-recruit him and a few that do just as well.

Also, Erron Harris is a transfer - a nice pick up but hardly a recruiting victory.

Also, Bo Ryan is 15-12 against MSU but that is after Izzo won 5 straight in '12 and '13. Prior to that Ryan owned Izzo w/ a 13-6 record. I can't stand Bo Ryan and want Izzo to get in the Green against him about as much as I'd like to see him make another FF.

And the reason no B1G team can claim a McD AA on their roster for 15 years straight is because other than Izzo, none of them have coached 15 years in the B1G. Ryan is in his 14th, Matta and Painter are in their 11th, Beilein is in his 8th, everyone else is newer. That said, OSU isn't too far behind MSU with a McD AA on the roster every year since the 2003/4 season (12 years and counting)...

This has bothered me for years. Even if some guy is unconscious at the arc they still allow them to shoot with plenty of room. get in the guys face at the arc and dont give them easy looks. Been complaining about this for years...
