Get StartedA friend told me Texas Tech has a better defense than we do (apparently they were 1st in defensive efficiency, we're 2nd), and a more consistent offense.
but according to the Freep our offense is better.
I also like us better in this matchup, as I think we played a tougher schedule, and the Big XII was much weaker than usual this year. But I hope we have a good gameplan... if it is a defensive struggle, points will be hard to come by.
kinda makes me think of that UH game in last year's tourney.
then again, if we come out and shoot well, we could cruise. that would be nice.
I will preface by saying I didn't watch any Texas Tech games in the regular season so I have very little to go by other than what I have read, and saw in the first two games of the tournament. Specifically yesterday their defense definitely looked legit. They made Buffalo (a prolific scoring team) look silly with the way they disrupted their rhythm.
Our defense should be ready to go as well. Need as many easy buckets on them as we can get, so I think turnovers will be an important stat. Texas Tech also grabbed a ton of offensive rebounds yesterday it seemed, so have to be johnny on the spot on the glass.
Of course, us Michigan fans in Michigan get screwed on the time again. Going to be up until 12:30am at night on a work night.
It is though, a typical start time for a west coast sports event.
Meanwhile, did you play the earlier/later start time line for this game?
a google search for "avg. NCAA basketball game length" says it's only 1 1/2 hours.
I assume they cram more commercial breaks in tournament games, so maybe they go a little over 2?
Still this should definitely be over by midnight, even if it starts 15-20
mins late
So a number of nerd monk math boards on the Internet confirm but ESPN has calculated, historically #2 is slightly better than a 60 to 40 favorite over #3.
You have to scroll down a little bit on the link to find the matchup history, but you can just take my word for it if you want to, #2 is at .625 winning% in this matchup.

Michigan's first round game started 27 minutes late
games typically last about 2 hours
Say this game actually starts about 10:15. That puts the game lasting until about 12:15am. Most people can't go right to bed after an exciting basketball game.
Just don't go to work on Friday. That is clearly the responsible thing to do.
I was home sick last friday, because of a Dr appt.
I could do it two in a row, but it is frowned on.
I'm just saying that one time we could get the earlier game
kudos to youAh, that sucks. Hope you're feeling better. I had Thurs, Fri, and Mon off for the start of the tourney. I have a good amount of friends and family at my house all through opening weekend, so I need Mon to fully recover.
Because of that, I will be going to work tired on Friday. Hopefully a very happy version of tired.
kudos to you
Every year since 2002 I've told myself "Next year I'm going to get all my shit done ahead of time so I can take those days off and watch basketball and drink beer all day."
and then... I don't do any of that.
