after reading the article, it sounds like a misunderstanding. The store wasn't even open to the public....black or white
 
It's a he said they said kind of thing.. Though I don't see any motive of why Lem Barney would do this..

It's very odd. He has money. I never even heard of Happy's Pizza.
 
A lot doesn't add up with this story. Store wasn't open to the public yet. Other locations closer than Southfield.

Could it have been racist? Absolutely. Was it racist? I don't know. If I was the employee and some random person walked in, I would be annoyed. Would I send them to another location? Yes. Would I take race into consideration? No. Is this worth a lawsuit? Probably not.
