We all know they have a tough job... Police and Firemen to name two.. My wife is a phlebotomist for Quest Diagnostics.. She has had two company cars break down in the last month.. First time I had to go out and get her and take her back to her office so she could get a new car... (don't get me started on QD towing service they have who told her it would be two hours to get to her).

Same thing happened last night coming back from Lowell.. Car breaks down on the highway in 5 pm traffic... She calls me frantic.. I told her I would come and get her just let me know after she calls her boss and the towing company... Her manager says keep her posted and her Boss has no car to come and help and the towing company is 90 minutes out and tells her they wont transport her and her Blood that needs to be spun :/ (yeah wtf ) .. So I wait 25 minutes and no call... So I start heading out to the highway like the first time and call her to get directions... Well a state trooper in his blue car stops and asks if she needs help? She tells her she is a phlebotomist with blood and needs to get to her office to get a different car...He says I will drive you back to your office (I was only 7-8 miles) ..
He calls it in and gives her a ride... Very cool...

state police are solid. They're usually much more professional than the local PD's, who don't have very high standards...

there was another story recently about good police work; trying to find the article, but can't.

Police received reports of a crazy guy holding a gun. I think this was in Maine, or one of the New England states.

Officers arrive and see no gun, but find a clearly agitated crazy guy. Pull guns anyway. Chief orders them not to shoot, they take guy into custody & he gets hospitalized for mental illness.

Of course... the cops are now publicly complaining about how their chief didn't let them shoot and kill the guy. he took all the fun out of being a cop.

My wife said it was interesting... He was young and driving to Lansing for some training. He told her she was lucky because normally they he would not come that way... She said it was funny watching everyone slow down around the police car. He says going slow by a police car is stupid sometimes because they can run plates and see if there is a record.. One car cut them off and he told her normally he would have pulled him over but wither in the car he is not allowed to make any stops.
