Obama is finally coming to take somebody's guns

heston-cold-dead-hands.jpg

too bad Charlton isn't around to comment.

I saw the article yesterday though. other reports state PD's can still get MRAPs and other heavy weapons, but at least now they have to find a local political authority (city council, mayor, etc.) to approve the request. Depending on the jurisdiction, probably not a huge hoop to jump through.

He's not really taking away anybody's guns. He's just probably going to end up not giving away as many as he used to.

It will be interesting to see how Ted Cruz responds to this when he's elected president.

Even though Red is a scientist, you shouldn't always take him so seriously... he knows how to exaggerate for humorous effect, or so as to generate more interest for a thread on the politics board.

He will announce this policy will be reversed, but only for police departments that agree to use the weapons on minorities, not the white anti-government extremist nutjobs that helped vote him into office.

That would make sense.

If he were to hire me as a consultant, this is the position I would advise him to take when running in the primaries.

Then tone it down a little after winning the nomination for the general.

A small step in the right direction is better than none.

The article talks about the mindset needing to be changed and props up Camden as an example. Specifically it talks about the return of the beat cop. I've oft heard how much the beat cop is missed on the streets here in Brooklyn. Currently the cops sit in the station or in their car. Camden has shown how being out and about, positively interacting with the citizens who are being protected is a crucial component. Of course in NYC the beat cops of the good ol' days were often getting paid off by people to look the other way or spend more time around one area than another to help reduce likelihood of a robbery, so corruption can be a problem. No solution is perfect.

I think in politics, things you can't get have been taken away from you whether you had them to begin with or not. Like "they took our jobs."

I think it's funny that the story has been that we need the right to defend ourselves from the government and Obama is going to take our guns, but when he finally takes somebody's guns, it's the local governments'.

You may think it's funny but lostleader is pissed off.

He was supposed to be the next sheriff's deputy in line for a tank to patrol the rural Indiana/Ohio border.

goddamn North Carolina liberals don't understand what it's like out there.

yeah, AND so of course, House Republicans are trying to pass a bill to kill the initiative by underfunding it... link.

can't have blacks and poor people being treated with respect by the cops. no sir. that would be communism, and terrorism, and we all know those are bad by definition.

Hahaha tinsel, no tank for me. Actually have moved to Indiana, and out of Ohio (thank God) and am taking a job with Brady Hokes Alma mater as more of a beat cop. They have established a community policing environment and I am on board. Surprisingly I agree with taking military style weapons away from local police. Not saying some areas don't need "Swat" style equipment, but it shouldn't be handed out freely.

I'm probably not as extreme as you make me out to be. I just think we need more common sense, and less knee jerk reaction on a lot of things if life. But you kids have fun debating how everyone is wrong.
