OFFICIAL: Draft Day (Day One-Three)

here we go......

Ronnell Lewis LB - hmmmm...kind of surprised it was a defensive pick. not bad.

Lewis spent his first two years in Norman playing defensive end and linebacker for the Sooners, but it's likely the results he saw after starting nine games at end in 2011 is what spurred his decision to enter the draft. He recorded 33 unassisted tackles - three fewer than his first two seasons combined - with 13 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks to earn All-Big 12 honors from coaches and a second-team selection from The Associated Press. While he excelled coming off the line for Oklahoma, Lewis simply doesn't have the size to play up front in the NFL and should expect to be shifted back to linebacker. He showed he can attack from the line, but a big weakness in his game is producing the same results when dropping back. Still, Lewis is quite strong, and with a fierce streak that comes with an ability to be an emotional leader. However, any team that selects him - he's projected as a fourth- or fifth-round pick - may face durability issues. Last season he appeared in 10 games, missing the final two with a knee injury, and he was also forced to sit out three games in 2010 after knee surgery.

Strengths:
? Pretty good bulk with thick, sturdy, muscular build
? Excellent strength and converts to power on field
? Good speed with burst to bend off edge / run arc
? Non-stop motor and does a fantastic job in pursuit
? Reliable tackler who can deliver some knockout hits
? Physical, aggressive and plays w/ nasty demeanor
? Should also be top-level standout on special teams
? Offers both positional as well as schematic versatility
? Developing and still has a lot of untapped potential

Weaknesses:
? Average height w/ short arms; lacks ideal length
? Tight with marginal agility and change of direction
? Limited repertoire of pass rush moves / counters
? Is not stout at the point of attack against the run
? Stiff hips and will struggle to match up in coverage
? Questionable instincts, awareness and football IQ
? Number of injuries and health / durability a concern
? Academic troubles and intelligence may be an issue
? Relatively inexperienced and not overly productive

Injury History:
? Missed time with neck injury / mild concussion in 2010
? Missed games w/ knee injury requiring surgery in 2010
? Missed games with a sprained MCL in left knee in 2011

Notes:
Just a one-year starter (14 games) for Sooners --- Named 1st Team All-Big 12 in 2011 --- Nickname is "The Hammer" --- Played eight-man football in high school --- A poor student and was ruled academically ineligible for the 2012 Insight Bowl --- Could project to either defensive end (4-3) or outside linebacker (3-4) at the next level --- A classic 'tweener who may lack the intangibles to maximize upside and primary value may actually come on special teams --- High Boom or Bust Factor.

He can back up both OLB positons and is a good athlete and has the ability to be a thumper. Good stuff.

Lewis played inside, outside, and even 5-technique at times. Very versatile guy.
