Offseason Deals and Rumors

I see a 3rd place finish even with all healthy. I hate the bullpen, no 2 hole hitter or leadoff. Who is the SS if Iggy can't play? Horrible defense at 3rd and 1st. I don't see the wins coming from starters lost vs. who we acquired. It's a mess. People are gonna hate Cespedes defense, he has a good arm but wait and see the other defensive fundamentals or lack thereof. Ill watch all the games and root for them but my expectations are low.

Here is how they win it. Jv returns to 2011 12 form. Price wins 20. Sanchez stays healthy. Greene be a solid starter. Lights out bullpen. Casty improves defensively and offensively. Iggy stays healthy and establish 2 hole hitting spot. Avila hit more. VMart and Miggy play 140 games healthy. Have some pop off the bench. JD Martinez hits like he did last year. Cespedes plats average D. Kinsler plays like last year. Simon steps in at any role needed in bullpen. Asmus not managing game like Leyland. No faith in Nathan or Rondon.

If all of those things happen they will win 105 games.

Just saw a blurb on detnews.com saying we are talking w/ the Jays about Navarro for pitching. Anybody else hear anything more on this?

Seen that they just had discussions with the jays about him but nothing more from jon morosi.

Bad thing is if they get him he replaces Victor for what a month then he blocks McCann and sends him back down to Toledo

A. Avila .322 OBP .361 SLG .683 OPS 8.3 PA/BB

Navarro .308 OBP .369 SLG .677 OPS 17.0 PA/BB

I can't see them signing him to take the place of Victor. If they are looking at him it may be because they are worried about Avila

If they get Navarro, Im going to throw a fucking fit. Im already not a fan of this offseason.

What pitching do we even have to offer?

Our rotation is thinner then it has been in 5 seasons, and our bullpen is a train wreck. It's not like we have arms lined up down on the farm either that we can afford to part with either. Not that anyone would want on purpose anyways.

It could turn out as Navarro / McCann. Tigers have until either March 15th or March 30th, to sort-out Avila. There's no other reason for Dombrowski to inquire on Navarro, other than doubts of Alex's durability inside his head.

There are already tell-tale signs of notable concern, having Avila do work at 1B. I see three futures for Avila.....

1) Traded
2) DL
3) DFA'd

It would be stupid regardless. Questions about Avila's durability should have been answered in the offseason (and I think they were, which is why there has been talk of the platoon), and even if they DID get rid of Avila for that reason, going to Navarro would be a downgrade. It would make literally no sense.

Has there been a Venezuela born MLB player DD hasn't pursued?

Second, why pickup Avila's option in the offseason, only to trade for another catcher, who is 3 years older and not as good?

To help secure Price's long term extension?

Navarro has been one of the worst battery mates for Price.

Catchers who have caught at least 60 IP with Price

J. Jaso 191.0 IP .217 BAVG .275 OBP .341 SLG .616 OPP OPS 3.58 SO/W 1.10 WHIP 2.59 BB/G

Or maybe you meant as a threat. "Sign an extension, or else we will trade for Navarro."

Avila calls such a good game. That's his value. He could hit 10 and I wouldn't care.

I do not have enough fingers to count how many times the Tigers needed Avila to come up with a huge hit, and he cannot make it happen. You need to get a little production out of your catcher in the lineup. He doesn't have it.

But going from Avila to another not so good game manager, and you could be adding runs to the opposing team. Plus, it's not like we'd be going from Avila at the plate to Pudge. Navarro might have a better BA but even with that AA still had a better OBP. I'll take AA all day over Navarro.

I'm late to the party and not really debating Avila vs Navarro. I just think looking at other options isn't the worst thing. I'm not sure how much more Avila can hold up with the constant injuries.

The problem with this statement is the stats do not back it up, in particular Close/Late.
