Here's the thing, I want Dan Persa to play. He's a great quarterback and will be a test to the defense. Beating NW with Persa would be a great win. With that being said, the guy reaggravated his achilles against Illinois and could not finish the game. Today, he supposedly practices and things are OK. I don't know about what anyone else's feelings are, but you are playing with fire when you send a kid back out there after a major injury like a torn achilles tendon. AND it is clearly NOT healed all the way. This guy has a possible future as an NFL quarterback. Why risk his future?

I also remember them saying during the broadcast that a donor tendon was taken from his other knee, which is now also sore. That's not helping him any.

really? I was thinking they were being somewhat cautious, but I guess you never know with that sort of injury. looking at the facts: he tore it on 11/13/10, and he only came back last weekend it's been about 11 months.

a couple years ago, I tore mine at the end of August. I was in a cast & on crutches for 7 weeks, followed by a walking boot basically until the end of December. That's four (4) months. By February I could walk without a limp, and by the following April (four (4) more months), I could jog at a decent pace. I played softball and volleyball that summer and once I would get into the game, I would totally forget I had even hurt it. So about 10 months post surgery I was fine.

Granted, I wasn't playing Big Ten football, but I'm guessing Persa has had a lot more medical attention to it than I had. He should be around full strength by now.

what? that's crazy...

ok, I know my doctor said my tear was bad, but they didn't need to take tissue from elsewhere to sew mine back together. Maybe Persa's was more severe.

I just hope they are careful with the kid but I do want him to play... He is good...

I watched the game, there was no being cautious. He was in pain on the sideline. I'm just of the mindset that after such a major injury, that if your still feeling pain(not discomfort), that's a bad thing. I remember that dude from MSU about ten years ago(forgot his name). He was complaining that his shin was hurting throughout the week and during the game. He goes up for the ball in the endzone, comes down, and SNAP. You see his leg break in half on national television. I would keep this kid out indefinitely, but that's just me.

hmmm... if he was actually in pain, he should be benched. it could be "phantom" nerve damage... I still don't have feeling in parts of my foot, but if he actually felt pain in his tendon, nearly a year after surgery, that means he's straining the thing, and could risk re-tearing it. if he does that his career is over.

From Persa: "It got hit when I was rolling out, and I felt some pain in the bottom of my heel and the top of my Achilles started to stiffen up, and in the past that

He'll be 'available'

which means, he might not play.

Nope, they said he's playing. Go read the big ten blog on espn. Apparently Coach Fitzgerald says he's going to be great because he was great in practice yesterday. I really do hope he's ok to play. I'd love for us to beat them with him in the lineup.

OK, well, I can remember quite a few times when Lloyd would release his injury report and he would say that formerly injured players would play the upcoming week, only to see them not play.

Maybe he'll play and maybe he won't

yeah, I don't put a lot of stock in injury comments from coaches, unless they pretty much say a guy is out, and his leg is in a cast.

Persa may play, but if he came out against Illinois, I suspect he might not be able to go 4 Qs against us.

as soon as he came out of the game there, they folded. Not hoping he gets hurt, but I wouldn't be surprised if he can't take the pounding from our defense, esp. if we play like we did against Minnesota
