I read that the last Star Trek series was really dumb and violent. Being dumb was probably the bigger sin.



Gene Roddenberry would not have approved. I hope if Stewart is involed the next one will be better.

I read and mostly agree with an article I saw somewhere saying Trek fans, or at least the perception of Trek fan by corporate suits, won't let Trek be Trek anymore. They think everything has to be dark and gritty and there's no market for a bright, clean ship on a mission of science and discovery with the associated social commentary.



Apparently, Seth McFarlane is a huge Star Trek nerd, and wanted it to get back to its roots and tried to pitch an idea that achieved it, but with comedy, and that's what they told him. So he went to FOX and made the Orville, which makes his point really well.
 
So season 2 of the Orville hits December 30. Plenty of time to catch up. Don't read reviews.
