I cant be the only one who feels a bit bad for Rip . Ben gets his jersey retired and now Chauncey , i think Rip was just as big a part of that championship team as they were . I mean Rip grew into the player he became while on the Pistons and i think i read somewhere he is our all time leading playoff scorer . I just think it woulda been nice.

IMO, they retire too many jerseys. I agree RIP was as important but imo, none of them should have gotten their jersey retired. Should be saved for players who spend their careers here and/or close to HOF level. Like Bob Lanier, not Big Ben.

Honestly, none of these players deserve it. Call me a pure hater, but retiring/putting a jersey in the rafters is an honor selected for the best of the best.

Chauncey played for SIX seasons with Detroit. SIX. Look at his numbers and tell me he deserves that banner.

Ben played for nine, but those last three were a send-off so he could bring some good feelings back to the city.

Who are they going to do next, Sheed? If they retire him, they may as well make room for KCP and Reggie Jackson.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, but I will say that Big Ben stands a decent chance at being in the HOF. He's got lots of fan and media support, and he's got a lot of hardware and records to support the case.

FWIW, Basketball Reference puts Ben at a tick over 45% odds of making it. Chauncey is at 82%, Rasheed at 8.5%, Hamilton at 1.7%, and is at Prince <1%. From the Bad Boys era, Isaiah is at 100%, Dumars is at 75%, Rodman is at 75%, and Laimbeer is at 26%.

Ben averaged 5.7 PPG and 9.6 RPG a game. I would have to think that to get to the HoF, you need to be at least close to a double double.

When I look at a HoFer, I want to be blown away by their numbers. Look at Isiah, LeBron, Kobe, Shaq.

Look at Shaq's first 10 years. The guy was putting up close to 30 and 10 a night.

Compare him to Ben. Tell me Ben deserves to be in the Hall.

Ben Wallace was a defense first BB player. 4 Times NBA Defensive player of the year.

Although one was a center and the other a guard,

KC Jones was also a defense first BB player.

There is no rhyme or reason when players numbers are retired let alone being voted into their sports hall of fame.

Well there should be. It shouldn't be based on effort, merit, and uplifting a city. It should mostly be based on how well they do statistically in the regular season and playoffs.

Ben's stats are well below what any person in the HoF should have.
