I am shocked by this just because he has so much guaranteed on the contract he signed just last year. But they are in worse cap shape than we are so I guess they had to do something.

I'd take him in a freakin heartbeat.....

For the right price. But he probably is going to demand more than we can afford.

Would be nice to have Routt & Houston outside and Smith and Berry inside.

Yeah I know I would to but I bet he gets close to a Joesph style deal. Although if I had to choose between signing Routt and resigning Avril. Well it's been real Cliff lol.

Oh absolutely. See ya Cliff.....all the best.

It's going to be hard for the Lions to add another big contract with Suh's contract....CJ's looming new deal.....Staffords new deal next year.....

If Houston has another good year they'll have to resign him too. Weird to have this problem if you're a Lions fan. Those fucking Millen years are going to bite us in the ass a little while longer!!!

FUCK YOU MILLEN!!!

already visiting the Titans and Bills.....both teams with more money to throw around then the Lions.

i didnt think routt played that well this year to be honest. Definitely didnt deserve his big contract and doesnt deserve another big contract.

Well he wasa one of Al's WTF contracts. Then they redid it and gave him even more money. I suspect Seymore wont be far behind. I think I saw in the cap thread the Raiders were at something like 149 mil

This is good news. Since he's the only "good" FA available at the moment, he'll undoubtedly get overpaid.

Let some team with cap space spend their money. That's less money they can spend on other FAs. And I don't think the Raiders even saved much since it seems much of his money for this year was guaranteed.

Hes not a premier corner and got paid like one of the elite. No thanks to him and it sucks that who ever picks him up will end up driving the market up on CBs.

Eh. The market will be determined once it opens. Some team looking for legit corner help will waste their cap space on him. That just means there will be one less buyer for corners when FA begins.

Some corners will get left out and take Eric Wright-type deals to get more next year. That's pretty much the only way Detroit upgrades that position in FA if Avril returns.

He isnt even going to be the best FA cb this year and its a weak FA class at that position. It sucks that the cap isnt going up this year it should have and its going to hurt quite a few teams.

Hopefully this will take one team with too much cap space out of the running for another corner we want. Routt is pretty easily the best on the board, with near elite completion% and YPA numbers against. He's no Revis or Asomugha, but he's better than most. Hopefully we can swoop in on Finnegan at a reasonable price while everyone else is fawning over Routt.

pretty solid cb market in my opinion...

Cortland Finnegan, Brent Grimes, Brandon Carr, Tracy Porter, and Carlos Rogers are all attractive options.
After those five names, guys like Routt, Terrell Thomas, Eric Wright, and Aaron Ross figure to attract significant interest.

I wouldnt put any of those as elite number 1 guys but they are all guys with upside and are solid corners. In that list I like Finnegan, Carr, Rogers and then Routt. With the rest of the group being just a little behind.

Finnegan has been known to throw a helmet in on a tackle. We sure as hell could use more of that.
