Raiders cut Routt

The Lions won't get a quality corner if Avril comes back.

well we can always borrow towards next years cap numbers and have more money this year to be in contention to sign a FA. Question is is this FA class worth the crap shoot of doing that?
Also, how much is a team allowed to borrow towards the following years cap?

I hate the idea of borrowing cap for next year unless certain contracts are structured to negate next years loss of cap space. People get paid a lot of money to "massage" the cap and make things work!

Routt really wasn't that great last year and overall hes not much more then a solid starter. Pretty much he is a Chris Houston type of player.

The player rep for Stanford Routt indicated the free agent CB already has visits planned with the Titans and Bills.
That was quick. Routt is a press corner with a dynamic size/speed package, but he led all cornerbacks with nine touchdowns allowed and 17 penalties last season. In his defense, the Raiders' scheme didn't help. Rotoworld's Evan Silva ranks Routt fourth behind Brent Grimes, Cortland Finnegan, and Brandon Carr among free agent corners. The Titans likely view him as a replacement for Finnegan

Last year he allowed 9 TD's and had 17 penalties, thats over 1 a game. Let someone else throq 7mil or so annually at him, doubt he gets much more then that.

Also if I remember correctly the cap goes up a ton real soon (I think next year) because the TV contracts kick in. So you will see a lot more restructures this year then in most because the salary cap is supposed to jump up like 20mil more then what it is (pretty sure I'm right on this, but if someone knows otherwise let me know).

Thats one of the reason I'm really not worried about the cap situation we have. My guess is we go hard after one guy and then maybe sign a couple other leftovers who could be a solid starter on a prove it type deal. My guess is one of Michael Griffin or Finnegan will be a Lions. Obviously you have the ties with Schwartz, but you also have needs on our teams for a safety and corner.

You can borrow 1.5 mil for veteran player costs. We should also have a surplus from last year we can use, not sure the amount but it couldn't be more than 2 mil.

Transition rules

Going to be tight to get everybody back and add a corner. Calvin long term deal must be done first to save cap room.

One guy I wouldn't mind trading or cutting for a corner would be Corey Williams as it's time for Suh,Fairley and Hill to rotate. He is on the last year of his deal. I'll cut or trade Corey Williams if it means they can add Finnegan on a 3-4 year deal.

With a $4.9 million dollar salary, he has no trade value. But he's certainly a candidate to get cut. My guess is they'll ask him to take a paycut. A big one. If he says no, they'll cut him.
