Their world was completely different than the one we live in today, so I would hope modern people would have modern ideas and very little in common with them. This is Rand Paul's pet issue, the one (1) issue I can agree with him on... on every other single thing, he's awful, and his views are often confused and inconsistent. His dad at least was consistent in terms of small government, no war, no welfare (corporate or social), no nothing.

What sets Rand apart from the rest of the GOP candidates is his appeal to the GOP/libertarian-leaning youth vote... almost every single other candidate is pandering to old, racist, Christian, white cranks. I don't think that will be enough of an angle to get around the Party Elders & the Koch Bros.

If they're making a serious push to oppose Hillary, it'll either be Scott Walker or Jeb; maybe Rubio or Cruz (whoever makes fewer gaffes during the primaries). If it's almost anyone else, you have to figure Karl Rove, Reince Preibus and the rest of them just threw up their arms and are looking forward to 2020.
