I get that most of the service academy athletics do not generate revenue and dip into "appropriated funds" for the games; it is just another sad chapter in the government shutdown.
Army v BC and Air Force v Navy are potentially not going to be played. Some sporting events have already been canceled.
The one that makes the least sense though is AF v Navy, because Navy Football uses "unappropriated" funds such as ticket sales and TV revenue to operate the stadium. Maybe the problem is the transportation of AF to Annapolis. Regardless, the last government shutdown had an exemption for the academies athletics; hopefully this one will as well.
Who cares? That's what many are probably thinking. Just think if some stupid administration budget issue shut down UM or MSU or any other / all college sports. Don't say it will never happen because in this day and age of financial craziness, there is potential for any school, no matter how big, to mis-manage their funds and cause the institution to go bankrupt. Or are universities "too big to fail" and would get subsidized by the government? Well, provided the government isn't shutdown...oops!
