Dan Orlovsky

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10716879/detroit-lions-bring-back-quarterback-dan-orlovsky

Dan...Orlovsky...

Dan "Safety" Orlovsky...who was QB in Indy after Peyton was injured and led the team to a 2-14 season, which resulted in Caldwell's firing....

This organization just cannot help but shoot itself in the foot. Please don't try to make this sound like a good move because he "knows Caldwell's system" or some other BS. He knew it so well the Colts went 2-14...so, NOT!!!

Only the Lions...

You are not the only one sir. I am at a loss for words.

Well, words other than "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK! SHIT! GOD DAMNIT! FUCK!"

Those words I have been using a lot in the past 24 hours when I think of Dan-O in a Lions uni again.

I don't understand why he's still in the league. How does this guy last all these years?

Meh

If it's anything like the last few seasons, he'll never see the field.

If he sees any significant time, the Lions are fucked anyway.

like i said before, i don't like the move, but i do understand it from a coaching perspective.

if it helps ease the transition of new coaches, then i'm all for it... as grandy said, he should never see the field.

What if he does get hurt, Staff? It seems lately that there are viable backups. It would be nice if we had one..

Isn't Suh like the 4th option or is that just for kicks? I rather him quarterback this team than end zone Dan.

Almost 3 years ago. But to answer your non question, no - it doesn't make me feel any better.

Shaun Hill hasn't really played since 2010 and I'm sure people would feel more comfortable with him.

Oh and Shaun Hill in 2010
257-416
61.8% completion
2686 yards
16 TDs
12 Ints
81.3 rating

it isn't just that he is back with the Lions, but he is back with Caldwell.

HOW??? how does a coach look at someone who QB'd him into unemployment say, "Hells yeah!!! Come play for me again!!!!!!"

I think he's his uncle.

Point taken but I've never seen Hill run through the back of the end zone and not notice for 7-8 steps.

I really don't get what the big fuss is.

What better options are out there willing to play for the vet minimum? How much more impact would they have compared to Dan-O?

Here are your current QB FA choices
Josh Freeman
Kevin Kolb
Colt McCoy
Matt Flynn
David Garrard
Rex Grossman
Brady Quinn
Jon Kitna
Jimmy Clausen
Seneca Wallace

Who among these would be considered an upgrade AND be willing to accept a minimum contract?

The Lions realize that Stafford has become dependable (injury-wise) the last few years and that it's not worth it to have a fairly expensive backup (i.e. Hill and his 2+ million per year) because the backup never sees the field. I can't really blame Caldwell for choosing someone he's familiar with.

The Lions sign one of these other scrubs and nobody thinks twice, they sign Dan-O and everybody loses their shit.

It's two fold. He's our number two, so why do we still have Moore? If given the "already knows what he gives you" to the "unknown" I'd go with the latter. Maybe get lucky with a late round pick. If we're not winning either way, if $taff goes out, why not just draft a guy?

They still could?

Nothing's set in stone and I doubt it's a "one or the other" situation

We could grab a guy with one of our extra 4ths and let him push Orlavsky. I understand with years of bad ownership, coaching and players the negativity on this board but damn take a deep breath and see how it plays out.

The draft is not over. We can still add a QB. Everyone calm down.

Plus I've seen Dan O win with Caldwell when forced to start. If they went 2-3 with Hill in 5 games we'd be lucky. Indy went 2-3 with Dan O/Caldwell and the team was 0-11 otherwise with Collins/Painter.

Cheap option this is what you get. I've seen the Bears lose games with Campbell and McCown (his first year). I've seen the Pack lose with Seneca Wallace. Flynn just went 2-2-1 with the Pack. Orlovsky 2-3. Dan O looked the best out of any of the QBs in 2008 inlcuding Kitan. That team was just beyond junk.

we should be moving forward, not backward. period, end of discussion. with danno there is NOTHING positive that can happen. draft some kid late or give KM the backup role, but there is ZERO positive that danno brings. roll the dice with the unknown is better, even if it ends up craps at least you have a greater than zero chance at some draft pick being able to come in and become a sensation. with danno, there is absolutely zero chance. even at vet minimum, there are other positions to toss that money and roster spot at who might be able to contribute more provided they get someone who is an unknown instead of a never-was.

give the TEAM a chance...which is something danno has proven he does not provide.
