Stem cell transplant

Advances were made in spite of him, not because of him.

That's bullshit.

He never restricted the non-embryonic stem cell research and was very supportive of that effort. His restrictions on embryonic research forced more focus and money toward other types which are proving more effective.

I didn't like his decision when it first happened, but it proved itself over time. He demonstrated what any President should in that situation, a patience and cautiousness and more thorough understanding of what was happening and increased exploration of alternatives to determine the best course of action to follow.

Your hatred blinds you.

It's not hatred. He limited research in that field, the fact that advances were still made is not a credit to him, but to the people who worked around his restriction.

He didn't limit the field of stem cell studies, he forced them to consider alternatives. Those alternatives proved more effective. Without those restrictions the scientists would have put everything into embryonic only. GW is actually the one person you should be thanking for the studies into bone marrow stem cell treatment resulting in effective medical advancements.

Why is it so impossible to give him credit for this?

It is unfortunate the treatments have not helped more people, but that is more due to it being extremely difficult to get right and there are still a great many unknowns. If he hadn't put in his restrictions, you cannot say with certainty the current treatments would exist or prove effective. Based on what we know today, effective treatments would still be many years away, if ever accomplished, due to the at-the-time unrealized and unknown complications from embryonic therapies.

If anything, GW should be considered to have shortened the timeline to effective treatments.

Not to mention the alternative options lack all of the drama. How many embryonic centers would have been attacked by people with similar mindset as those who attack abortion clinics? How much negativity and violence would have been commited by now?

No threats will be made against this doctor or the patients. It is proving to be a very peaceful solution, one that only the most extreme would ever consider wrong. You know the type, those who refuse any medications and trust solely on their deity to heal them.

with enough stem cells, you can use them to build your own Shakey's Pizza...
