Stuff to save from 2011 Tiger campaign

The baseball collectible business has come way down over the years but keepsakes of your fav team are still important to the loyal fan.

I was thinking today....if the Tigers go "all.... the...way" (Howard Cosell inflection) then what stuff should I make sure I get my hands on, this side of ticket stubs.

Many D fans are gonna want a peice of sod...but I have better ideas. Like newspapers with their stories of how a championship was won. The Freep had a great glossy mag of the whole 84' year complete with each game covered. Super momento, had Gibby on the cover beserking after his 2nd homer in game 5. That would be my main goal in mementos IF, IF, IF 2011 becomes another 1984.
WHAT would be your most sought after momento of a 2011 WS win?

I was at game 5 of the 1984 ws. I was only 15. I kept the ticket stub for quite a while but somehow with all of the moves I lost it. I am still pissed to this day that I don't have that ticket stub

The only thing I collect from games are ticket stubs....we have a board by the bar where we pin them up after the game. Since our bar has a sport theme it looks pretty good.

Grandma used to own a bar, famous for lunch, in Saginaw by a GM plant. The only thing left on her wall was the workers morning sobriety. Now you know why cars built in the 50's and 60's hardly reached 100k. Like your idea a bunch better.

Where did this idea of tearing up sod get started? I was at the division clincher in 1984...people were climbing over the fences...actually ripping a couple down...as if the Tigers didn't have some playoffs to go....or as if the Tigers were leaving town for good. Now when the Dodgers left Brooklyn lots of folk got sod....understandable. But Tiger fans in 84?? Almost makes Bubba look only half stupid in front of the burning cop car....I said almost.

I have the Detroit News and Free Press papers from the day after stored in airtight bags, though I put them in the bags later, because they did yellow a bit.

I also have a .45 record of the "Bless you boys" song, though I have no record player. lol

Me and some of my bros were at the game in 72 when they clinched. We took some sod, prob the size of dinner plates from LF. Went to the dressing room ent. to get autographs, holding the sod pieces. Even tho I was only about 14 I felt kind of stupid asking for autographs with the sod in my hands. My older brothers didn't seem to give a shit about it. They were yelling at the players leaving the locker room to sign for me. I remember I got Tom Haller's and a couple other 1's. I think I was at the age where autographs weren't a big deal anymore. It was a crazy, fun night though!

Love to see the Tigers clinch at home because of the ....the....the....atmosphere. Lotta love out there in 84' and 2006. I'd love to get a picture signed by Mr. Tiger himself that had his name and "#6 : 68,84,2011". All WS wins by Tigs with Kaline involved....I hope!

In the backyard of my old and apparently still inhabited home in NE Detroit, there very likely is a small section of grass that is still growing there that is originally descended from the '72 season's sod that my brother and I ripped out from RF after the Tigers' Game 5 pennant loss to the A's @ the now late and lamented Tiger Stadium.

Seems like physical mementos have become very scarce, much like the red-ink-stained digital vapor that comprises what passes for the US' "service-based" economy nowadays, just a bunch of frigging ones and ZEROES on a server's database...
