"Successful" Season

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the high expectations the Lions are starting to put on themselves.

I'm not saying vote Superbowl because it's obviously successful, but what would you be happy with the Lions doing at a minimum.

i think you should add an option to that. "Keeping Stafford healthy for all 16 games"

Unless this team takes a complete shit like a few years back and goes 2-9, 1-10 from here on out...i'd say this is already a successful season. and i say that on the standpoint of the culture is changing. they are winning games they would normally have no business winning. they went into minnesota and won. the defense is playing much better than last year. the offense is playing much better than last year. stafford so far has remained healthy.

i believed they were still a year away from the playoffs due to the talent in the division, but minnesota and chicago are major disappointments for their markets (although we knew it would be a tough year for minnesota). i wanted .500, and i am pretty sure they will get there. playoffs would be wonderful, since i've forgotten how much fun playoff football is. gotta learn to walk before you can run, so expecting much more than playoffs is a bit ahead of ourselves. some tough games remain. i look forward to see how they do going forward, starting this weekend against SF, then another tough one coming up against atlanta (they are still pretty good), then oakland and sd loom later on, not to mention gb. but it sure as fuck is exciting.

After starting 5-0 I would think getting into the playoffs would be the mark for this season. Before the season I was hoping for and ok with just missing the playoffs. With the way that some of the NFC teams that I would have thought would press for a wildcard spot have played so far I think they have to hit the playoffs now. The schedule is pretty brutal from here on out though. The kool-aid is still good right now!

With a little less than 3/4 of the season remaining, I am a long-time Lions fan who has a VERY hard time getting the cynical out of my system, since I am/was more than old enough to remember the '80 season when the Lions crashed..hell..nosedived/freefell back to earth, after their 4-0 start. So I can't say that they are already a success, a season-ending injury or two to a couple of key players, and/or the teams inability to lead a game in the first half could bite them in their collective asses...IF it continues, and might cause a monumental collapse, so to consider this season a success would be 10-6 and no playoffs, at the very, very, absolute minimum.

I am with you Turok. there is part of me that is waiting for it all to fall apart. I love this team and the coaching staff. We have a swagger on both sides of the ball that I have never seen. Even the Schwartz has an arrogance about him. I do expect us to hit a slide and lose a few games. But that may not be a total bad thing for our long term success. I think we have a real chance of winning 2 out of our next 3. If someone told me we would have a chance to be 7-1 at the start of the year I would have laughed. But we have a real chance.

getting into the playoffs would be a success for this team and a huge confidence boost for us to get better in the future.

No option for it so I picked Wildcard, but I think 8-8 would be a huge success.

Of course, I think were much better than 8-8, but equaling your win total for the last 3 seasons combined has to be considered a win.

Gotta get a spot in the playoffs. Its successful so far, so far being the operative word. Because if they lose the next 11 games it won't be succcessful.

When you're 5-0, 8-8 would suck. Completely suck.

Yep, means that they went 3-8 remainder, not good at all.

Mitch[/color]]Packer fan, I thought you just had a head made of cheese.

And an impacted colon full of half digested bratwurst.

As I tend to be the resident extreme optimist, I went with Super Bowl, though I honestly stated originally I think this year they make the playoffs and next year is the Super Bowl, the attitude and growing confidence plus amped up energy levels of the players AND fans makes me think the SB is actually a possibility this year.

I am with the majority in saying they now need to make the playoffs to be a successful season. I wouldn't have said this at the start of the season but after a 5-0 start, as someone already mentioned, 8-8 doesn't cut it. They have a very difficult schedule from here on out but if they go 3-8 now I think it means either they had some key injuries or took a step backwards. I think they will finish 10-6, that to me will be a success all things considered. I think that should be enough to make the playoffs but if it isn't I still think this is leaps and bounds above last year and the sky is the limit in the years to come. Nine wins will be a bit of a letdown but not really a disappointment either.

I love our team but were prime for a losing streak somewhere in there. Gotta find as many wins as we can now early in the season before a brutal schedule in the 2nd half. Hopefully, Tebow time struggles to run the offense and we go into the bye week on a winning streak and an extra week to prepare for CHI which will be a completely different game AWAY.
