Ted Ginn Jr To Visit

He would be a nice addition but my point was I think he is over valuing his skills and what he is good at.

+1

He is a good return guy, but he isn't devin hester. I think, if he signs, his greatest value would come as another legit deep threat to take pressure off CJ.

Putting Ginn and CJ on the same side would allow Calvin to work underneath & crossing routes more because Ginn keeps safties honest.

However, I think he has minimal value to the Lions unless he takes a very small contract....which I don't see him doing.

Ginn has been a very poor receiver. More than one team has tried to use him as that deep threat, and he's pretty much failed. He doesn't get open and doesn't have great hands nor make great adjustments to the ball in the air. He's really only any good as a returner and trick-play specialist, same as Logan. He's valuable in that role, but he's absolutely fooling himself if he thinks someone is going to make him an integral receiving target given his lack of production and consistency in his career.

And why bother? He's never going to be a 10 million a year WR, that's not who he is. He can get as many touches on punts and kickoffs as he would as a regular WR would get catches. Embrace your role, play within yourself, and you'll be making big bucks for a long time. Ginn is going to play himself out of the league if he keeps demanding a bigger role and paycheck for things he can't do.

Free agent WR/KR Ted Ginn is seeking an increased offensive role with his next team.
"I want to be known as a receiver," said Ginn, "not a specialist guy, not a punt returner, not a kickoff returner." Ginn left Detroit without a contract Thursday. "I'm going to see my options," said Ginn, "but I like the Lions." The Ravens are also said to be interested.

He isn't getting an increased offensive role in Detroit

Exactly. To anybody who even thought that he was coming here can throw that notion out the window. He's a 4th WR on the Lions and probably a 5th or 6th option on the offense. But he wants to be "known as a WR"? C'mon bud...get real.

Kinda sucks because he's a helluva PR. Wish we could land him, but OH WELL....

Was wondering how bad he was at catching so I did a little search and found him listed in a blog written before the 2011 season:

Despite ranking third in targets among Cowboys pass-catchers over the past three seasons, Roy Williams struggled to produce in Dallas due to an inability to come down with the ball when targeted. Williams has dropped a higher percentage of passes than all other players with at least 200 targets since 2008 and has the third-lowest catch percentage over the same span.

Player % Drops Past 3 Seasons (2008, 2009, 2010)
Roy Williams 8.2 (19 drops/231 targets)
Dwayne Bowe 8.1
Ted Ginn, Jr. 7.5
Dustin Keller 7.4
Bryant Johnson 7.2
>>min. 200 targets
