The D-Line?

Why is no one mentioning about our D-Line that did not show up on Sunday? Its not like the Bucs are regarded as having a superior O-Line. Where was everyone? Linebackers seemed to be making most of the plays and being the real difference makers. GO LIONS!

Tampa had 52 yards rushing , stopped twice on less then a yard to go downs to move the chains..

Dline did what they're supposed to do , occupy blockers so the new LB core can clean up...exactly why Tulloch and Durant were signed.

longest pass of the day went 22 yards for them....most everything was out short and quick.

Dline gets a B+ from me....

Yeah the Dline seemed to get pressure when they needed to. KVB was held a number of times that were never called. But they played run 1st. I expect the same thing this week.

Our D-Tackles are supposed to do more than just occupy blockers and are supposed to get more of a push on the numerous passing downs. Maybe this week. I guess I just had higher expectations for the front of our D. GO LIONS!

Tampa runs a weird version of a WCO , everythings out quick but they rely on a power run game instead of the scat back type.

like I said...it was stop the run , occupy their OLINE and let the LBs clean up.

Every game our defense will make slight changes to perform better against the opposing offenses. Like Slick says, they run hard and throw short passes. With that happening it would make no sense to tell our Dline to try to get penetration and sacks.

Their offensive scheme would give their QB misleading stats too.

also though.. with that BLISTERING heat and humidity.. they had to keep rotating the line a lot... so our starters were not on the field as much.. look for them to generate more pressure in the cool controlled confines of ford field this week

I think they did fine. Can't have 4+ sack games every week. Besides, they did such a good job when they were on the field the first half, it allowed for a cushion large enough to absorb TB's late game run at evening the score. They damn sure did their part even with the rotation they had going.

I wouldn't say they did fine, but I wouldn't say the d-line was bad either. The Lions had a solid effort against the run, but the pressure needs to get better. I'm more willing to say the Bucs played a fantastic game as far as pass blocking than I am to say the Lions played a bad game. The line didn't put any pressure on Freeman. One thing to get sacks, but the pressure was hardly there at all. One thing I've noticed about Avril is he's an edge rusher almost exclusively. Maybe that's by design though so they force the QB up into the pocket towards Williams and Suh, but I rarely if ever see Avril try to get inside the tackle.

Some might be content but the d-line could have performed better. Sometimes however you just have to say the opponent did a great job . We'll see over the course of the season.

M. Faulk during the pre-game said that Freeman wasn't going to get touched during that game. He clearly stated that Bucs OLine revoke hunting licenses...lol. Take that with a grain of salt i guess.

I honestly don't know why people are so concerned with D-line stats. A lot of what they do doesn't show up in the box score.

Agree. You really need to watch them......KVB especially was pushing his guy back. Freeman didnt have a lot of time to throw anything deep and was scrambling often.

If you watched the game closely then you saw the dline had a hell of a game. They contained Freeman. He was having to move to avoid sacks all day. He got hit repeatedly. Only one sack on a guy that is really hard to sack, and only 52 yards rushing. They played well and they will beat up on less mobile qbs. Next week against KC, they have no oline and Cassell cant run so they will have better stats.

If a DE is lined up rushing at the qbs face he's always the contain man, taking away the inside move as an option. If you go inside and the qb sees it, he rolls out and there is a lot of grass (unless you have a spy on).

On a mobile qb the D may have had rush contain regardless of whether Avril lined up at RE or LE. Tulloch was the spy on a lot of rushes as well, and blitzing was minimal and used primarily in the first quarter/half. They didn't run any stunts all day which is where dozens of sacks came from last year. In short they played the front 7 very vanilla and rotated heavily. Was never going to be a big sack game.

Big story last year Blount 111 yds 1 td 7 ypc...This year 5 for 15. If we keep that up I like our chances.

Yep, the dline did well. Did you see how quick freeman got rid of the ball? No way were we getting sacks. And the new linebackers were huge in the game.

A win on the road and they get disected like they just lost by 30 points. Jeez.

I'm a little bit surprised as well at all the complaining done after this win.

The only legitimate gripe should be about the personal fouls, which Schwartz already expressed his disapproval for.
