If I was ever given proof, I could believe it. I believe there could be a god or gods, but to me, the bible is an obvious fraud just like every other man made religion. If there is a God, he or she obviously doesnt care if we believe or not.

Yeah...well my post wasn't really meant to sway anyone one way or the other, but I had remembered coming across that quote online many years ago, and it was included in my first reply ever as a newly registered member of ESPN in an off-topic thread that was very similar to this one.

It's a great quote, and mostly true. Both sides are normally very closed minded.

The God I know is the one who has COMMANDED the deaths of millions of men, women, and children (in the bible). The God I know commanded babies heads to be dashed against the wall, pregnant women cut open, the babies killed. The God I know is the one who gives instructions on how to buy, sell, and trade slaves (including your own daughter). The God I know throws a tantrum any time somebody defies him, despite never giving actual proof of his existence. To be honest, Harry Potter seems more likely to be real. Perhaps Dumbledore gave JK Rowling inspiration to write the story?

Since this God is a fabrication, along with all the acts He sanctioned and committed, and since The Bible is a work of fiction on a level with a book series like Harry Potter, I wonder why it's such a sensitive subject.

Be careful what you ask for, unless you are willing to be converted after he offers his answer.

Can't be converted, since I am a lapsed Roman Catholic, although I have received all of the sacraments, save the "last" one, of course...The morbidly obese priest who married my wife and I on 9/11/99 (hows that for a nuptial date...sure can't forget our anniversary!!) has since left the priesthood and has become married himself....He must have dramatically slimmed down.

I think there are 2 sacraments you haven't received.

Unfortunately, the crisis of faith is not limited to the laity.
