The NRA is apparently imploding

Link to one write-up.

... the NRA has been hemorrhaging cash for years (running deficits of as much as $40 million a year), may be nearly broke, is losing members, and now faces a formidable legal challenge to its tax exempt status. Axios calls these ?existential threats? to the group that has become the id of the Right. And this doesn?t even include its odd entanglements with the Russians.

sounds like The dispute is mostly between Oliver North and Wayne LaPierre, and their hanger-ons and toadies:
...the battle between long time NRA boss Wayne LaPierre and North. So far, it looks like this feud is mostly about personalities, power, and access to the various grifts. And the grifts are juicy indeed: million dollar salaries, sweet deals for spouses, fat consultant contracts, six-figure wardrobe allowances, and a menagerie of scams all marinated in a culture of deception, secrecy, and greed.

So the NRA's lawsuit against it's longtime ad agency, from which Oliver North also drew a $1MM salary (they've never heard the phrase "conflict of interest"????), started this whole shitstorm of hilarity.

It's really surprising a bunch of career grifters would misuse an organization's funds like that...

^^^^^So does that mean you are not re-upping? ^^^^^
Hahaha, see, sportanhack? this is an example of an actual joke.

anyway
When I bought a gun... *AHEM* ... "MAH GUUUN111" many years ago, I noticed it came with a bunch of pamphlets practically insisting I join the NRA and its Illinois affiliate. tossed both right in the trash without reading them. it's obvious their schtick has less to do with gun safety and "rights," and more to do with stoking fear and driving gun sales. it's been a racket for a long time

Please don't tell the mods....

That's another thing we don't have in common - I'm not a pudgy little thin skinned sissy boy. I've never once complained to a mod about you or anyone else (or anything) on this board.

No one has ever said that.

A bunch of corporate grifters at one (1) gun manufacturer that hoped to use bullshit scare tactics to sell guns to rubes going bankrupt doesn't mean there are less guns in private hands.

you say it all the time - the NRA buys Republican politicians so they can sell more and more guns to whoever they like.

Actually, if you read the article you would see it's not a gun manufacturer that is going bankrupt, it's a gun retailer that owns something like 20k retail outlets throughout the country. The article listed more than a dozen manufacturers they had purchased guns from and held in inventory - but you missed that because you didn't read the article. And they weren't using bullshit scare tactics, they were placing a bet on the outcome of the election because again, if you read the article, historically gun sales surge when a Democrat, particularly one who promises to restrict gun sales is elected POTUS. So, if gun sales increase when a Democrat wins the presidency and slow down when a Republican wins the Presidency, the result of Trump winning the election is fewer guns in the hands of private citizens than if Hillary had won.

The sooner that organization folds the better off America will be !

Amen.

appropos of all the mass shootings, I read a couple articles about the coming implosion:

The law firm Wayne LaPierre apparently hired had been billing the NRA a shocking $97,000 PER DAY for over a year (link); there's slim chance that amount of billing is legit. If I were a supporter, I'd be livid that this is how my money was being blown - in addition to Funding LaPierre's and a handful of other's lavish lifestyles.

even some members of the GOP (Allen West here, who is on the NRA board) are on the outs with LaPierre here (link to the daily caller!)

Since grifting clueless dopes is why they're all in business in the first place, I assume Allen West is going to get a stern talking to, and a wad of cash to shut up and go away.

CO Senator Cory Gardner is up for re-election and is listed as #4 on the NRA list of those receiving its Blood Money ...he's also a big Koch Bros hack and crawled under his desk last summer, ducking constituents and avoiding any public interaction with them.

His opponent is a younger/33yr old Scientist named Trish Zornio. She's been blasting him for his taking NRA money and Cory seems very nervous ...although his NRA/Koch funding dwarfs her coffers, he's exactly what defines THE SWAMP and who needs to be voted the fuck out of DC.

Bump (link)...

Wow... the allegations & responses from both the NRA AND it's ad agency (Ackerman) have been filed and they are hilarious. The only people winning this are the lawyers... and the general public.

Right wing whore/NRA mouthpiece Dana Loesch is caught in the middle of all of this and "refusing to comment." She doesn't want to piss off whoever survives this and might sign her next paycheck.

Kinda wonder what LaPierre thinks the end game will be here... when you let the lawsuit get this far, and allegations about your $97,000 visit to an LA clothing boutique & $12,000 car and driver rental for a trip to Italy come out, he must realize this is going to seriously hurt his bottom line.

some not-insignificant portion of the mouth breathers donating money to the NRA are going to hear about this and reconsider future donations, especially the part about only 20% of the Association budget going to actual gun-related activities, and most going to fund frivolous stuff, like NRATV

And his response "Yeah, but I only spent that much because you, ad agency, encouraged me too!" is ... questionable...

Deny it publicly, and settle behind closed doors before they respond, dumbass!
