The Official Indiana vs ][V][ichigan Game Thread

What is DG's problem? Throwing into coverage and getting picked, locking on receivers, etc. are bad, but throwing INTs right to the opposing DBs? WTF? Does he have vision problems, is he on the take, or what?

Looks like he's scared back there. Like he has no faith in his o line. So be stares down his receiver hoping he gets open enough to chuck the ball. He jumpy and skittish and he's prone to panic... Also, he has zero swagger... He always looks defeated... It's sad...

I wish we had a QBC...

In 1997, Kordell Stewart took the Steelers to the AFC Championship game, and that year he became the only QB in NFL history (Cam Newton became the 2nd in 2011) to pass for 20 and run for 10 TDs. They Cowher brought in offensive coordinators who scolded him for running when they saw on film that some receiver was open somewhere and he should have gone through his progressions. Then from '98-'00 he sucked. Finally in 2001 an OC comes in who uses Kordell's legs, encourages him to run when it's there, and he's top 5 in the league in MVP voting.

Sarcastically,

Remember how great McNabb became when they made him exclusively a pocket QB?!

Dennis Dixon's career really took off when he was told to stop running and stay in the pocket!

How great did RG3 become when he stopped using his mobility and became a statue in the pocket?! (And Gardner hasn't even suffered the injury Dixon & RG3 have!)

Devin Gardner is not a pro-style QB. He needs to be in a spread where there are fewer progressions in the passing game and more running being done. Give Borges credit, at least he kept enough spread elements in the game for DG to be successful. Quite frankly, if you as an OC have to decide between your QB being successful or your RBs, you take the QB every time.

And I'm pretty confident in saying that if Shane Morris had shown any type of competence against Minnesota (and hadn't been tagged like he was) Gardner'd still be on the bench. Hoke is being disingenuous in the claim he just wanted DG to watch the game for awhile. Gardner sucks in the offense they have right now. Problem is, so does Morris, which is scarier.

I think every fan is putting their hopes in Speight at this point. We appreciate what Shane did for recruiting, but he has shown only incompetence on the field. He doesn't suck as bad as DG, he is actually worse than DG. I think that bout of mono which prevented him playing his senior year in high school hindered his development at a crucial time, and unless he miraculously improves by next year, Speight will be the starter.

If not Speight, then who? Who do fans look to for hope??????

Really good coaches put their teams in positions to win. You turn that shitty QB into a game manager.

I agree. It was annoying listening to the announcers take the piss out of Gardner on a couple plays where he took sacks when he could've ran with it.

he should be well-coached to throw first, but not hesitate to take the 5-10 yard scramble when it's there.

and if he does that a few times, maybe they keep an LB or safety up to spy him... and now our TEs are more open, or we have a deep ball open.

Whoa Whoa Whoa

That sounds like coaching. We are not capable of such things, just loud, forceful clapping.

I really hope UM's next coach is a great at player development, and not just a great/decent recruiter.

i really wish we had a qb coach and brought that up earlier this year

i ddin't like borges as qb coach or nussmeier as one - oc has enough to deal with

devin mechanics are messed up - i wonder if his foot injuries have done something in terms of balance, speed - i have the feeling he is playing with some issues

in addition to his mental lack of confidence
