The Official MICHIGAN vs Wisconsin Score Prediction Thread
Based on the formula for determining winners, congratulations to me, TheVictors, for being closest with my prediction last week ….and to GoBlueBigJon for posting the same prediction 8-hours later. He and I will split the pot and meet on Mill Street to do so!
On to Wisconsin ….
Well, this is it. This is what all the pundits have been talking about and what we fans have known all summer long; this next three game stretch is a veritable Running of the BigTen Gauntlet and will certainly determine the way in which the 2018 MICHIGAN FOOTBALL season is judged.
Coming into Ann Arbor and following a solid win over the (0-5) and hapless Buggeaters, the #15 ranked Badgers seem to have taken a small step back from the team that beat the Wolverines last year in Madison. With a Home loss to BYU and a rather lackluster home win over New Mexico State, the Wisconsin program has stumbled from time to time this season. But one constant when preparing for the Badgers is knowing you will have to face an enormously HUGE Offensive Line and a physical, (4th ranked this year) rushing attack.
Unstoppable Force meet the Immovable Object!!
The #12 ranked Wolverines have been lead this season, once again, by Don Brown’s Dudes and the #1 overall ranked MICHIGAN Defense. Game wreckers like Devon Bush, Chase Winovich, Rashan Gary and Tyree Kinnel have lead a very impressive Maize and Blue Squad.
But …NOT SO FAST!!! Michigan’s Karan Higdon leads the team with 598yds rushing, 5 TDs and almost 6yds per carry --- Fullback Ben Mason has amassed 5 TDs on his own, along with Truuuuuuu Wilson’s 216yds and 6.5yds per carry. This success on the ground, especially in recent weeks, has opened up the downfield MICHIGAN passing game and forced defenses to choose between stacking the box and risking a big play up top, or sitting back and being gashed between the tackles.
As we saw last weekend, it's clear that to survive this upcoming three-game murderer’s row, MICHIGAN QB Shea Patterson will have to continue to create, buy time and rise to the occasion. Displaying an uncanny and super fun, sandlot-like knack for making a play out of nothing to find the open receiver, TE Alvin Gentry, and both WRs Nico Collins and DPJ have become favorite targets of his. This year, Wisconsin’s Defense has yielded an un-Wisconsin-like 17ppg and against teams like BYU and Nebraska, 24ppg. If the Wolverine Offense can get off to a quick start, which they really haven't done consistently all season, it would bode well for a victory, given Wisconsin’s preference to maintain ball control and dominate time of possession… the classic Badger game of Keep Away.
But at the same time, beware the lightning quick ability of the MICHIGAN Special Teams and Return Game to strike!
The Vegas line is rather …YUCK! for a game like this with MICHIGAN opening as a 6.5 point favorite and the line more recently moving to MICHIGAN -8.5, with an Over/Under edging slightly higher from 48 total points to 49. Don't forget, Lloyd Carr had a terrible record covering the spread as the Michigan Head Coach when the team was the Home Favorite, BUT ….Carr and the Wolverines won most of those games; thrilling the Alumni and Wolverine fanbase while disappointing Vegas gamblers.
….screw Vegas gamblers….
and besides, over the past 139 years, MICHIGAN FOOTBALL is (4-1) in Home Night Games!
This is a Big Game in PrimeTime with College Football GameDay and the Boys (Des!) in A2....
So go ahead and post your game score prediction with some supportive analysis if you wish, but keep the woofing and barking for other threads.
