Tiger vs. Phil for $10M

Does it go to charity at least.. That would be the best way..

Because they don't need the money and to do something good..

I think it adds something to it if they are putting up their own money. If they want to give money to charity they can do that any time.

Just because they are rich doesn't mean they can't capitalize on their fame/popularity.

I suspect more people would attend if it goes to charity.

I suspect a lot of people will shit talk this if it happens but it will end up with better ratings than any golf tournament all year, with maybe the Master's as an exception.

If they have it during a dead spot on the sports calendar, I'd probably tune in for a bit.

Did they say where it might happen and if it will be on TV?

Imo, it differs from many, I don't understand why Golf isn't more popular sport. I know one place it's packed though - the Phoenix open .. I remember 2 years ago that had like 650k through the 4 days. Pretty good last year too..

But take out that, the Majors - maybe the Players and some WC and the Ryder Cup. The rest, just too many tournaments that get very few people. I guess when you play every week that's what happens.

Golf needs another star imo to capture the casual audience. I just checked the top ten rankings and only recognized four names, and none of them were #1. Golf needs another Tiger or Jack.

I think people thought they might of gotten one in Rory with his 4 Majors in a short time.. I think he was 25 after the fourth, none since 4 years later. He goes long stretches of not playing well.

Some say it's because it's just so good all around.. I disagree. I don't think anyone today under 30 has the drive to play well every week.. It seems they go social media more than they golf. My imo.

But even a Tiger doesn't lift the ratings a whole bunch on some tournaments. And there are tons of the years tournaments Tiger doesn't play. Or Phil or others.. Sometimes fields are downright nasty with no star power. Only the non casuals (like myself) watch those..

Maybe people just want team sports..

golf ratings are hard to compare to other sports. All golf tournaments are on TV during the day and typically end around 6 or 7 PM. Those aren't the prime TV watching hours. Golf has it made as far as advertising though due to the people that are watching.

Phil gets birdie on 22nd hole (sudden death) to win.

I watched all 5 hours of it and enjoyed every bit of it . Was def something different and at times was a bit slow but who cares . If you don't like to watch golf or don't follow it then don't fucken watch it and shut up . I thought it was a very entertaining event

I didn't watch it because I knew I would be gone for part of the day but I'm glad you liked it the people from Golf Channel seemed to think it was boring and less than stellar play.

I'm sure both are somewhat true. ESPN said the same thing. However, if the Golf Channel or ESPN were broadcasting it...their comments would have been something like this...."Two of the greatest to ever play the game, an iconic battle that took 4 extra holes to determine the outcome...a must see TV event!"

I would have enjoyed it I suppose. Maybe they didn't have their 'A' game but hard to predict. As far as talking together down the fairway one guy, Phil, is just much better at it. He just likes to talk. When has Tiger ever been a conversationalist while playing.

I read that the winner also got a diamond belt but it didn't fit Phil. He joked it was made for Tiger's waist LOL.
