Continuing our discussion on the Detroit Tigers need for a solid shortstop, they did not explore a trade for Willy Adames. A former Tigers prospect, he is an elite defender but lacking this year in offensive stats.

The closest prospect they currently have is Ryan Kreidler who is in his first year at AA.

With a clear and desperate need at SS, the Tigers were not in the running for Adames. The big question now is why? Is it because of money or because they don't believe the team is anywhere close to competing so they will not be investing at the present time?

The Detroit Tigers have a black hole at SS which hasn't been filled in 3 years. Given their games with the Angels, many fans continue to wonder why Jose Iglesias wasn't re-signed and blame owner cost-cutting and GM Al Avila.
He remains a top SS.

But evidence points to personal factors with an anonymous source within the Tigers once stating he had a "difficult" personality. This would support the fact that Iglesias has been with 3 different teams in the last 3 years despite his elite defensive skills.

With Detroit Tigers Niko Goodrum injured, it will be telling which player gets called up: Zack Short or Isaac Paredes. Another dress rehearsal.....

Totally Tigers

Tigers starter Matthew Boyd has been to see a ?number of doctors? about the arm discomfort that landed him on the injured list on June 15th. He won?t pitch again before the All-Star break, but there is no structural damage in the arm, per the Athletic?s Cody Stavenhagen (via Twitter).

Detroit plans to be cautious with the 30-year-old southpaw. In 13 starts this season, Boyd has a 3.44 ERA/3.75 FIP across 70 2/3 innings. In terms of the positive, his 6.4 percent walk rate is better than his career norm. On the other side, Boyd?s strikeouts are down (18.8 percent strikeout rate). If all goes well, the Tigers hope to have a healthy Boyd back in the rotation for the second half.
